Some help please....

Will be going to Aruba for the first time in November and have narrowed it down to 2 places to stay. I have researched almost as much as I can and going by hotel class and price it is down to either the Wyndham Beach Resort or the RIU Aruba Grand. Anyone have advice on either one? We are looking for a clean, fun place to stay. I have heard the Wyndham is very windy on the beach, are most hotels the same or is this one worse? Any advice or help would be great. Thank you.

Hi Bob,

All I can say is, if you don't like it a bit on the windy side , you're going to hate it in Aruba! Always windy, ok really it is more of a constant, slightly shifting breeze.

Someone will always disagree but I don't think there is much difference in wind speed on the island, I mean how could there be?

Have a great trip and write us a report when you get back.

Re: Some help please....

Bob,
A fair answer would have alot to do with your expectations.

It is true that the Wyndham has an area trhat is windy. If you are the kind of person that would look for this spot and then sit in it, I really do not recommend this resort at all. On the otherhand, the Wyndham is a great place to stay and have fun. Great restaurants (Blossoms is my favorite there) and a nice casino.

Aruba Grand is at the other end of the spectrum. Much more sedate and quiet. The casino is not exciting and is not considered one of the better or more fun places to deposit your cash. Agai, on the other hand, it has a great beach and the pool are as tops. It would be my choice if I were comming from a stressfull situation and wanted to lay back and read some books while my body took on a golden tan.

Like I said at the onset, this has alot to do with your expectations.

I haven't stayed at either, but went to see their grounds. Both look nice, not sure how the rooms are though. You're going to feel the wind no matter what hotel you are in. To me it seemed like every hotel was the same.

Re: Some help please....

The wind in Aruba is your ally. You will come to enjoy it rather than loath it, because it will help keep you cool! It also keeps most flying insects in hiding.........so don't pray for no wind cause you will be sorry. Women get their hair cut shorter for this reason or they wear something to control their hair but they don't wish for the wind to stop. No one does as the sun is quite intense in the equator area and if your not accustomed to it you will roast! The high rise buildings tend to concentrate the wind by diverting it between said buildings causing a higher velocity than in other open areas, this is what you are refering to I believe. Many persons choose the low rise hotels for this and other reasons........we prefer the Beach Tower Ren for this reason, as well as it's proximity to some of the best Aruba has to offer. We cab to other restruants when we choose but like to walk to those downtown also!

Re: Some help please....

hi bob!
we stayed at the Grand last Christmas and plan to go back this year. it seems that it is the last of the fair priced not all-inclusive hotels. very good location, excellent beach, average and very plain pool. the service was great and the hotel staff was very accomodating. we didn't eat at the hotel except for one lunch so i can't help you there. friends have stayed at the wyndham which sounds quite nice but they could not STAND being whipped by the sand at the beach. i won't stay there for that reason. i don't go to aruba to stay at a pool (even though my children love it)! good luck with your decision! sue

Re: Some help please....

My daughter just returned from her honeymoon at the Wyndham. She said the beach was extremley windy. To the point where they couldn't sit on the beach. They felt like they were getting pelted with sand. She said its like that on Palm Beach. We stay on Eagle Beach and have never had a problem. Although the weather has been showing windy there. We leave this Sunday for two weeks so I hope the wind dies down.

Re: Some help please....

We stayed at the Wyndham the week of July 10-17. I would definitely choose this hotel over the Aruba Grand. The beach in front of the hotel is perfect. We were there when the hurricane was close by, and the hotel kept us fully informed. Only got some rain during the night. We ate at the Italian restaurant only at the Wyndham. I would suggest looking into the dine around program. We did that for meals and it is fanatastic. You get a list of restaurants to choose from. Any other questions, just email me. Lots of honeymooners there, hotel is extremely clean and rooms are typical. Enjoy!
