When in need of something, free of charge, to demark and decorate my rose beds I am glad this stones are ready to put in my pickup. So to say, not even have to bend.

Re: stones on the wild coast, Aruba.

Just got back to from Aruba yesterday wito.....I did bring back a few pretty stones for my flower bed...OMG why is the Island so addicting???? I could not believe the colors of the ocean....they took my breath away. Such beautiful shades of aqua/greens and blues & the water was so clear. When you are there you don't have a worry in the world.

Thank you Wito,
The environmental NGO's label these rock piles as ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE.
They have nothing to do with Aruban culture, were created by tourists/tour guides and pollute the landscape.
So, why don't we all knock over a pile when we see them........

Lucia,
Please tell me why these are considered as environmental damage? First time I have heard this and want to be updated.

Re: stones on the wild coast, Aruba.

I think what Lucia means it that they are what is called, horizon pollution. It is not the natural state the north coast should be in.

Of course I could think up other reasons why they are considered environmental damage: There are animals living on the north coast and a lot of them use the rocks to hide under or to live under. If you stack them, you take away their home. Perhaps Lucia can publish the NGO's statement that was made about the rock piles?

Re: stones on the wild coast, Aruba.

I heard this term used by an NGO last week during a discussion at a government department concerning Sustainable Economic Development.

Tourism is too often seen as income, with too little attention paid to (countering/minimizing) the (hidden) costs of tourism development. Loss of natural landscape, damage to the beaches, noise/air/light pollution.

Personally, I get upset by some of the stories I hear that taxidrivers/tourguides tell our visitors that are utter nonsense. The stone piles being one of them (has anyone every seen one of these piles prior to the tourist boom????)
My favorite was a taxidriver that explained that the goat herds get decorated with Christmas lights around the holiday season....
Pulling a leg is fine, but too many lies are presented as island lore.
