Stores opened on Sundays?

True or not? I was told stores would be opened on Sundays in Aruba if a cruise ship was in port.

Re: Stores opened on Sundays?

Maybe a few trinket type stores may open on Sunday but the main stores are closed. Last yr. I did see a few jewelry stores on that side near the dock where Diamond International is located.
I'd like to see them open at night to liven the town up for shopping etc. Usually around 6 PM everything shopping wise closes?
Most people want to spend their days on the beaches etc. and shopping in the day time can waste up a good part of outdoor time.

Unknown to me , I guess they have their reasons.

Some will be open but not all. Supermarkets are open on Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 2o p.m.

Not many stores are open on Sundays. When the cruise ships are in, more are open, but not all.

Re: Stores opened on Sundays?

The reason shopos close early in the evening is so that the employees can be home with their families and the same goes for Sundays.

Re: Stores opened on Sundays?

I can do without certain things on Sunday.
I found most items I had to have were available on the ship. Also I found Jewelry
to be reasonalbly priced on the ship.

Re: Stores opened on Sundays?

Edna, I have spoken to many "single" adults in Aruba that work in stores. A lot of them also wished stores were open so they could get out a little in the evening to work and have some days or a full morning off once in a while.

If there was a part time shift from 5 to 9 PM open as an alternate within a normal work week, it would be filled quickly.
Workers who do the 5 to 9 PM any night, can then come to work the next day at 1 PM. They could easily balance their work hours alternating, so they could have 2 or 3 mornings a week off and come to work at 1 PM. Many people, especially single ones would love to have a few mornings off and not have to report to work until 1 PM once in a while. The answer lies in Aruba's policy.
Wouldn't you imagine there are a lot of owners of jewelry stores, shops etc. that would love to get the 6 to 9 PM business that would be readily available?
Esp. when Cruise ships are in.
The answer lies far beyond people wanting to be home with their families.
Thats why there are thousands of people who live in Aruba are working after 6 PM in Casinos, Restaurants and working Sundays as well.
The Aruban govt. and big business owners are not worrying about workers being with their families. They have a business to run and they do whatever it is to make the business successful.
