stranded in Aruba

My wife and Several 100 people were stranded in Aruba during the ice and snow storm that hit up north last month. My wife was able to leave on Sunday night after being there 3 days longer than expected. The extended stay was not a problem WHERE ELSE DO YOU WNAT TO BE STRANDED. But what was strang was when They got to leave it was at 2am and the airport didn't make them go through security or customs so her passport says she is still there. Does anyone know if this will be a problem when she goes back. Hope not as we go there a couple of times a year. This is also alittle scary in light of 911. There were 2 737 planes full of people that were allowed to leave without going through security or customs. Anybody else got any stories like this.

Re: stranded in Aruba

Well, we got out that Sat at 6 pm instead of 2:30. Missed our next flight, slept on the airport floor in San Juan. Had to stay in San Juan(luggage went home on Sun.) until Tues. night. They did put us up at A Marriott on the beach. San Juan is not nearly as nice as Aruba, but it sure could have been worse. Does have nothing to do with your Passport story, but that's what happened to us!

Re: stranded in Aruba

I take it your wife left on 3/25 correct? On USAir? My SIL flew into Aruba on that plane that arrived at midnight Sunday night. She had a similiar experience coming into Aruba.....with security and immigration that night.

Re: stranded in Aruba

I envy you....we'd love to be stranded in Aruba...last year...we had to stay because of some Volcano eruption on another Island and the plans couldn't fly because of the "ash"- the restaurants all gave us discounts...and so do the resort....I'd call the Passport Authority in your State and ask them if you should have this corrected, etc...so next time you leave the "Country" you don't run into any problems.

Re: stranded in Aruba

First off yes, where else to be stranded but aruba, but with that said, I am personally appauled that people were just let on a jet like that. I think it is disgusting and a total slap in the face to anyone who has lost anyone or been effected by 9/11. Honestly I find it disgusting. I could understand if they rushed them through, but they didnt even check them. What if something happened? Not like Aruba needs more of a bad rap.

I love the Island and some of my closest friends live there, but I find this rediculous. I hope it is looked into.
