Of course, it was winter back home and I had on sweat pants and a sweat shirt (never did that again). And we too got leis.

Our first night was N.Y. Eve and we were staying at the Americana which is now the Occidental. We ate at the buffet at the Americana, and when my DH asked what something on the buffet was, the server simply repeated the word "carne" to us. Carne, which means meat, was a little too vague and we kept asking what kind of carne, but the point was not coming across. I'm still not sure what we ate that night.

What is memorable from the next day was the immense amount of red firework paper, which still happens every New Year.

We didn't rent a car that year and took cabs to the restaurants. Our favorite was Roma di Notte and La Taurina. We pretty much stayed within our resort. When hubby said let's go back on our first anniversary, that started a long string of visits.
Roma di Notte was a great restaurant and one of my favorite's! I really miss it...

Our first trip was in 2004. We stayed at the Renaissance because the husband had a job that required a lot of travel and he had built up the Marriott points. I don't know why we didn't consider the other Marriott but we didn't. We weren't sure whether or not we would like it (Aruba) so our first trip was only 5 days long! What a mistake! By day five I was really sad and wanted to stay but vowed that we would go back. Anyway, our first meal there was at the German restaurant that used to be at the Seaport Mall and we took a jeep tour (I think it was DePalm) that we loved because we had a great tour guide known as "Papa".

On a humorous note, we arrived the first time at night and decided to walk around the resort. We stayed at the suites and I was freaking out because there was no beach. We found the private island the next morning and haven't stayed anywhere but the Renaissance because of it!

We leave tomorrow for trip #8 and hope that there are many more!Tell us of your FIRST visit?-10968348_885867841434784_4810340918806745630_n.jpg

Loved, loved that German restaurant at Seaport. I think it was called Village Germania and had the best baked camembert cheese I've ever eaten.

We first went to Aruba in 2004 for our 25th anniversary with friends of ours who were celebrating their 20th. They stayed at The ren(checked us into their room so we could go to the island with them) and we stayed at LaCabana Villas( forget what they are called now). We loved the island! First year we went on Jolly pirates and saw the show at the Ren. We saw the ren island and some of them snorkled around the edges of the island. We rented a car and saw the other side of the island and went to baby beach. We ate at El gaucho( my husbands favorite place to eat). The following year my husband and I went alone and stayed at Aruba Grand. We rented a car and toured around on our own- still loved the island! Unfortunately life got in the way and we were not able to go back to Aruba until 2011. That time we rented 2 different timeshares at Lacabana nd stayed for almost 2 weeks! Still loved the island nd vowed we would try to save so we could go back the next year. We did go back nd stayed at the Westin. Had an awesome time- thought we found the place for us. Well we all know how what happened there- Riu bought the westin so last year we stayed at Costa Linda and since it was a 2 bedroom we took our friends who came the first year with us. They stayed the week with us and we all had a great time! They left on Friday and we moved over to Divi AI until the following Wednesday. Had a lot of fun just laying on the beach and going to casino at night. This year we are going back and staying at HI for 3 nights and then heading to ABC for the next week! Just us 2 and that beautiful island! Can't wait! Then we will head back in November at Divi AI for 9 night for hubby's birthday! So to say we love Aruba is an understatement!

This resort had several different owners/makeovers since then but the original building is still there and now part of the RIU.
Our first trip was also on our honeymoon in Sept. 1996....stayed at the same hotel (Aruba Palm Beach Resort & Casino) in a lanai room that was steps from our palapa. Stayed there every year in lanai #22O until it changed to the Riu - then we moved to Amsterdam Manor since Palm Beach became too crowded for us. Been back every year and sometimes twice a year since then. Trip #32 is in Sept.

My first trip to Aruba was with an ex-boyfriend back in 1999. His friend had a timeshare at the Divi Phoenix and we used his week. We met an employee at the Phoenix who "moonlighted" as a tour guide, so we rented a Jeep one day and he took us around the island and showed us the natural bridge (before it collapsed, swam in the natural pool, gold mill ruins, tunnel of love cave, national park, etc. etc.). We ate dinners at El Gaucho, Valentinos (now closed) and Ruinas del Mar (probably others but I can't remember). Hung out at Garufo cigar lounge (now closed), went to the show at the Crystal palace with the white tiger (now closed) and got free tickets for viewing a timeshare to the dinner/show called Twinklebones (also closed). I fell in love with Aruba so much that when hubby and I were looking for a honeymoon destination, I automatically thought of Aruba. I told DH that I know he will love Aruba so much that he will want to buy a timeshare there. 3 days into our honeymoon at the Radisson we were approached by a Divi salesperson while waiting at the bus stop. They were trying to sell us dirt (the Divi Golf Villas pre-construction). We were so in love with Aruba that we bought the dirt!!! Then 7 years ago when I was pregnant with DD, we bought an additional week and an additional unit. Can't wait for hubby to retire from FDNY so we can buy more weeks. Just can't get enough of Aruba!!!!

My first visit to aruba was in 2007 for an internship for 6 months. I was immediately hooked and in the airplane back I thought to myself Holland ain't gonna happen I want to go back! So after I got my graduation, I went back to live their for a couple of years. Now back in Holland but I still visit my second home once in awhile
