Timeshare

Hello-
My husband and I just returned from a week in Aruba and fell in love with the island. We stayed at the Westin. We are thinking about buying a timeshare, but do not know much about it. I was wondering if anyone could give us some first hand tips, the pros and cons, and what your feelings on it are? Is it really worth it it the long run , do you save money for vactions?

Thanks
Jen

Re: Timeshare

Hi Jen,
I have only been to Aruba once. I loved it. I stayed at the mill. It was ok. I have family ho have been staying at the Divi Aruba Phoenix for years. They love it. Avout two months ago I decided to buy. It was great. With the phoenix you have it for 40 years and can leave it to your children or other family. I bought it through emailing the divi. If you are interested in the Divi I reccomend emailing Mina Roberts at mina.roberts@diviresorts.com Yes I also know that you will save money in the long run. I was just going to vacation every year but in a year it went up about a thousand dollars.

diviresorts.com

Hope I can be of help!

Re: Timeshare

We own 4 timeshares---Divi, Disney, Bluebeards Castle and Liki Tiki

We love timeshare because we go on vacation a lot. DO NOT buy directly from the resort if you decide you want to buy a timeshare. The resale is so much cheaper. We got our Divi for 2,000; Blue Beards for 900.00
Liki Tiki for 3,000 and Disney for 6,000.
You need to know things like the time of year and the maintance. Also is it right to use or deeded. All those factors play an important part as to whether it would work for you.But once again, NEVER buy directly from the resort. You will get better deals from resales.

Re: Timeshare

Hi Jen
I have only been to Aruba once as well and also fell in love with it. I was planning on just vacationing every year but I found out that vacation prices soar every year especially because I go to Aruba during the high season. I have family who have been staying at the Divi Aruba Phoenix for a few years. They love it they go every year for two weeks. Anyway I decided to email the divi and just ask them some questions. They were a great help and I wound up buying! Now every year I only have to pay maintainance fee and airfare. With the divi you have the timeshare leased for 40 years and if can be left to someone. I think it will be excellent in the long run. If you are interested in the divi I reccomend you email Mina Roberts. She was a big help and walked me throught every thing.

Re: Timeshare

There are many timeshares for sale from private individuals. One place to look is www.redweek.com. I have also seen them on eBay.com. When in Aruba the resales are listed in the local paper. Never buy from the developer. Never pay asking price, everything is negotiable.

Re: Timeshare

Hi Jen:

I would also recommend Casa Del Mar. Have owned there for 20 years and they have the lowest maintenance fees and also the best service. It's in the low rise area and has a beach, pool and restaurant among other things. Check out the website at www.casadelmar-aruba.com

There are ambassador units and presidential units and if you check the message boards and also the resales link, there are units that are available.

Re: Timeshare

We started 20 years ago...1st two years stayed at the Divi-Divi before it was all inclusive....18 yrs. ago we bought at the Aruba Beach Club...(one of the 1st time shares in Aruba...it's not a high-rise and is on an incredible beach...every year we feel like we are going home...the price is right and we own it "forever" and can deed it on to anyone we want...the Studio's start around $2300.+...if your looking for a Hyatt..it is not..we think it's even better..the place has been all renovated...but I also agree....don't buy directly from the resort..check Arubabeachclub.net and look at the resales that the owners have listed....good luck....I think paying $6,000.00 etc. is alot of money...especially when you add on your maintenance fee every year....we personally prefer Low-rise and being on the beach...with a "friendly"group of owners..it is two next to Manchebo Beach and Casa Del Mar...which is next to the DIvi....good luck...30 days and counting....

Re: Timeshare

Hi Jen,
I have been to Aruba 5 times. I got my timeshare at the Renaissance Ocean Suites.
I loved the Renaissance private island .
Since I moved from the east coast to the west, I am thinking of selling it. If you are interesting in buying. Please email me at camhongds@yahoo.com
