tipping
how much is resonable tip for maids ![]() __________________ x My CountdownCounting down to: aruba hoiday 155 days 20 hours 25 minutes I would venture to say $2 or $3 per person per day. So, 2 folks in a room for 7 nights would tip somewhere between $28-$42 for the week. we tip our housekeeper on the first day and then towards the end of our stay. some of the timeshare resorts have little or no housekeeping. some of those charge extra for housekeeping services. does one tip them as well? i always wondered. ex: we have friends that pay extra for housekeeping daily services at divi village. they do not tip as they have to pay extra for the service. when kevin was young and he brought his friend ben with us to aruba and to florida....................the deal was, if the boys did not clean up their messes completely, then the entire housekeeping tip would come from their spending $. (great incentive) usually, they just made small contributions to the housekeeping as they were careful not to be pigs.

I used to tip weekly, but got to thinking (I do that sometimes) that the maids probably aren't each working 7 days. Don't know if they pool tips or not. I now tip daily 5-6 dollars so the person actually doing the room gets rewarded at the time of the service and doesn't get 'stiffed' if they are off when the weekly tip is left. cp

Tipping?
This may be a tacky question...
This is my first trip to Aruba; we've travelled throughout the Caribbean and while I tend to be a generous tipper I wondered if anyone had any feedback as to the average tip on the island for hotel services (we're going AI)? Thanks in advance!! |

Tacky no. Check the menu or bill, a lot already include 15%, depending on the service it's your choice to add on. AI, I usually tip the bartenders $5 depending on our length of stay that day. Once at the Divi we meet a couple from NJ, we decided to have dinner with as we left I left a 10, and they ask what I was doing tips were included. Needless to say we always had drinks waiting for us when we arrived at the bar and never had to wait like they did, or ask for another. It's your choice.

what about tipping when we arrive at the hotel for the first time?
For our first trip we arrived--someone took our luggage from the taxi and put it on a dolly. He then wheeled it to the check in desk. someone then came and took us to our room to see if it was good. someone else bought the dolly to the room. do we tip all these people? How about concierge-- if they make a dinner reservation for us- do we tip? |
