The Top Three Memories From Your First Visit To Aruba.

I'm sure that everyone has great fond memoriesof their first visit to Aruba. From those memories what would be your top threememories from that first trip? My top three are as follows:
    1. Howevery evening/night felt like a Friday night regardless of the day of the week.On my first trip to Aruba I arrived sometime after 9:00 pm, on the way to CPVmy relatives drove me through the Palm Beach/High Rise area and it was jumping. On other islands everything is shut down by noon on a Sunday, even the tumbleweeds pack it in early. On Aruba the number of people that you see out andabout makes it feel like it's a Friday night or the night before a publicholiday.

2.Something in the air made me feel to relax. After going on previous trips whereI was always on the go, it felt great to just sit back and relax. Be it at thehotel, or at the beach, I just felt like kicking back.

    3. Ifound myself in an interesting conversation with an Immigration Officer in theImmigration Hall. She found my name interesting and asked how my parents cameup with the name, she was pregnant and trying to come up with a name for herbaby. She knew that 'Vallon' was a definite boy's name but not too certain howit would work for a girl. I told her, "Just shorten it to Val." Sheliked that idea

    1. Jolly Pirates. That really stands out to me. It was my first time snorkeling and we had an absolute blast. Everyone was so nice and funny. We really relaxed and enjoyed eveything about it.

    2. The beauty of the colors, the white sand, the blue skies, and of course the sunsets. And the power of the sea, the scenic views while touring the coast. Pure Beauty!

    3. The people we met that were return visitors. This stood out to me alot because everytime we met new people they were all there for their 5th, 15th, or more visits. We knew there had to be something to it.
7 trips in and still finding things to love. #8 will be great in November!

    long long time ago........... 1979
first visit was a 1 day pre Bonaire and 1 day post Bonaire Scuba trip.

    1. My strongest most vivid memory was of the greeting when we came down the stairs onto the tarmac from the plane. We were greeted with folks sellings local wares....dolls, jewelry and pottery. I bought it all

    2. Goats. My SCUBA group went for dinner and then casino on that first night. I went to the casino as well, ran out of my allotted $ quickly and walked back to our hotel. I was surrounded and overwhelmed by goats. Well arent they cute?!?! NOT. They ganged up on me and one of them began eating my skirt and another was pulling at the handles of my pocketbook. I was a bit discombobulated and freaked out. I was rescued by a nice man and he drove me to my hotel . (ya 24 years old and getting into a car with a strange man)

    3. Nice people. The arubans that I met were not only nice...they were polite and respectful and kind.

    1996 - our honeymoon

    1. The hotel we booked was PINK! It was called (at that time) the Aruba Palm Beach Resort & Casino. I just thought it was funny that the resort was pink and my wedding colors were pink, black, and white. Just seemed to fit.

    2. No decent beer to be had. LOL!! Our only choices on the island at that time were Heineken (which I actually like now) and regular Amstel. A couple of years later Polar came on the scene (which we liked a lot) and then a few years later our beloved Amstel Bright arrived.

    3. Sunset cruise with DePalm. I remember waiting for the boat to arrive at the pier and we sat on the end of the pier with our legs dangling off the end while we watched the fish swimming in the crystal blue waters. The pier at that time was just a plain old pier with nothing on it - a couple of years later the Kokoa bar opened and we thought we had died and gone to heaven since our lanai room on the beach was just steps away (it's now the Bugaloe bar.) But I always remember that beautiful evening on the boat watching the sunset (only about 8 other people on the boat)....it was just one of those magical honeymoon moments. Little did we know at that time that we'd be coming back again and again.....20 years and 33 trips now.

    1. Torrential rains & flooding the first day and a half.

    2. Then gorgeous weather & fabulous water & beaches.

    3. Shopping, Shopping, Shopping, the best island shopping ever with the exception of Mykonos

    1. Getting off the plane on the runway so to speak...long before it was attached to the main building.

    2. Dining at Ruinas Del Mar, when I asked if I could have a second lobster tail with my filet, he responded "You are at the Hyatt sir, you may have anything you wish"

    3. The amazing colors of the water and how good the sand felt on my feet.

We were there Sept. 14-21, 1996 for our honeymoon. Looks like we just missed you by a couple of months. You must have just celebrated your 20 year anniversary? We're headed to San Francisco and Napa Valley in Sept. for our 20th.

    1. So funny how those that have been going for many years remember that first step off the plane on to the tarmac. That is one of my top 3. I remember stepping on to the tarmac, in SWEATS. I will always remember that first feel of the Aruba air; you could even feel it when they opened the plane door.

    2. Getting sunscreen (which was called suntan lotion back then) all over my silk robe (it was a honeymoon you know) I left on the balcony. It was NY Eve and someone exploded a bottle of suntan lotion which landed on my robe.

    3. Honeymooning at the Americana (now Occidental). It was the most lavish place I had ever stayed in at the age of 24.

Funny you mention beer, our first visit we had no idea that our all inclusive at Holiday Inn only included Balashi draft beer. Read the fine print...lol. Then we realized the cost of beer in general on the island. That was our biggest shock. We adjusted
