Re: tourists

I just returned from Aruba. Tourism is down due to the cost of fuel, hurricanes and the holloway case, quoted in "Aruba Today". The weather was beautiful as well as the Island itself. The water was extremely rough and a lot of the beach parts have washed away. We had 10 foot waves pounding the beach last week at the Casa Del Mar. Never in 12 years have I seen that in Aruba. Play Linda suffle board cracked and wash part away. Most of the beach next to Aruba Beach Club had wash away. Aruba has taken a beating from the hurricanes. Aruba was different this time, people not as friendly. Guess a lot of it was due to the Holloway case. We spent two weeks there, had wonderful meals and enjoyed every day. There was a big sink hole right in front of where the cruise ships come in, downtown on L.G. Smith Blvd. Traffic was a mess and very difficult to get to downtown. We just left yesterday and always like to stop and have lunch at Don Carlos before leaving. We watch a theif being chased by several people. Never seen such in Aruba before. In spike of several little incidents, Aruba is still a wonderful place to visit. We stay or two weeks and it goes by very fast. Found a couple of new resturants, saw the collasped Natural Bridge (shame). The weather is taking a toll on Aruba. If you have never been there, you should go. In spite of all they have been thru, they are still a safe Island. LOVE IT!

Re: tourists

Just returned from Aruba last night. Island is not crowded right now but Im sure that will change within the month as they get into their peak travel months. Was there for 5 days, last day it rained for about 3 hours but that was it.

Re: tourists

I just came back as well and saw a totally different picture than Pat is describing. We stayed at the Marriott and there are no signs of beach erosion at all. Aruba is outside of the hurricane belt. The water is calm as always and as far as the people go, they couldn't be nicer like they always are.
