    Travelers check question

I have used them in the past in aruba... Is anyone having a problem using them or cashing them at resort..
Lots of banks are not selling them anymore... Only place I can find them is AAA Banks are saying that nobody is taking them anymore...Does anybody find this to be true.... I hate using my debit card or personal credit card anywhere unless its for a large purchase (jewelry maybe)
    Thoughts please.

In recent years, credit and debit card usage have been slowly replacing travelers checks. I haven't used TC in decades. I predict they will be gone completely before long.

Use your credit card (leave the debit card in your wallet) and save the TC money to pay off the CC bill. It's so much more convenient and universally accepted. You can bring some cash with you for small purchases, tips etc. You can use your debit card for cash at ATMs on the island.

I used travelers checks in Aruba last year without a problem. However, I now prefer to use the Amex global card which can be purchased and loaded at AAA. Great to pay at restaurants or to get ATM cash. Far less risky than debit cards.
Credit cards for purchases and American Express Global for ATMs are IMO the way to go,

For some reason..I cannot remember.. Can I use my debit/ATM card at the grocery stores and get cash back? In the states, I used my debit card like an ATM card and get cash back when buying stuff at the grocery stores. Also eliminates the fees.

i don't know about the cash back in grocery stores in aruba with a debit card.

we only use our debit card at atm in aruba if the need arises.

we continue to use traveler's checks.
we cash them at the casino and in May 2014 there was still no fee to cash at the Marriott, Alhambra, Crystal, Ritz and Seaport Casinos. (i cannot speak for the other casinos)

many people keep unused traveler's checks tucked in their wallets in the event of an emergency.
we used to.....but, for every uncashed traveler's check, AMEX (the check company) continues to ramp up interest on your money.
why let them earn when it is your money?

we are going to look into the Amex Global card of which Rob O speaks.

This is just a debit card. You put money into an account then spend it via the card. What are the fees?

I think the initial fee was $5, with no fee for adding additional $$$ (do it at AAA). As for ATM fees, same as with a debit card.

They give you two cards, the second has a different account number and can be activated if the first card is lost.
