Anyone have any problems cashing travelers checks on Aruba recently? We had no trouble last year but our credit union quit selling them. Said too many customers were not able to use them on their trips. Our bank is also fazing them out for the same reason. Dont want to get there and not be able to cash them.

havent been since last year but had no problems at all...however, I made sure I cashed them at hotel and used cash around the island and paid hotel bill with them at end of trip....have you considered going to aaa ??? have never had a problem with theirs...

got them from our credit union and used them in aruba
between 8/11- 28 2011
cashed them at casinos and used one at Lings
no issues, no problems

No problem cashing them at Resort and Casinos. Used them to pay bill at many restaurants. Now a business or shop is just not going to cash them unless you are buying something.
Think the problem using them is in Europe. Most places over there do not even want U.S.$$. Was on a cruise ship and able to convert Travel Checks on the ship to whatever needed.
My credit union is still selling them without fees to members.

Yes, Bk of Amer stopped selling them over a year ago.

thanks all. we cash them at casinos and buy dinner with them so should be ok.

I stopped using them decades ago. I use a little cash and credit cards when I travel. That way I also get the protection VISA offers.
