Aruba reports record arrivals year

1/13/2011 2:15:00 PM

Caribbean island Aruba has witnessed a record year in UK visitor arrivals, according to the latest figures. The island has reported a 26 percent increase in British visitors during 2010 to 14, 359, following a 28.3 percent rise in visitors in 2009. “Aruba had another record year and has remained one of the fastest growing destinations in the Caribbean for British holidaymakers,” said Joanna Walding, UK director of the Aruba Tourism Authority. “We have now firmly established ourselves as one of the top 10 destinations in the Caribbean for the UK market and we are second only to The Netherlands in generating visitors to the island among all our European markets.” The authority now anticipates that figures will surpass 15,000 this year.

Short Season

This increase is in spite of us folk in the UK having a very short season. The last flight taking Brits to the island left the UK on 23 Oct approx. Don't know the reason for this and perhaps UK tour operators will start to extend the season soon. Would be nice to spend a Christmas there but the only way to do it at the moment is go via Holland and that is so expensive as to be impractical.
Pete.

Is it a question of First Choice only wanting to offer packages during low season because that is when pricing is most attractive overall?
