The captain of the Jolly Pirates gave me a special shot of rum after the incident. Helped keep my cool... I didnt need my 3 year old panicking for me.

Sorry you had to experience that. Too bad you couldn't "fix" it like Mel Gibson did in the Lethal Weapon movies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Igrdi_lhhW4

I've tried that Mel Gibson move each time it's happened to no avail!

Glad everything turned out well. But sorry that happened. But your post also raised a question for me. You mention your three year old on board. I had been wondering if this cruise would be appropriate for my grandsons. One is three and the other is two. Take care.

    Gramdee -

My daughter has been going on the various cruise boats since she was 6 months old. We did purchase a baby sized life vest and I require her to wear it the entire time she is on the boat. Other times - she was too young to appreciate it - and I was spending a lot of my time paranoid watching her. This time - she really enjoyed - she got off the boat to swim in the ocean and had a blast. The pirates gave her bread to feed fish off the side of the boat and made her shirley temples. It is a personal choice if you bring your kids/grandkids on things like that. A lot of people dont want to deal with the stress -- we find it enjoyable having her with us and take her almost everywhere it is appropriate.

My shoulder used to pop out of socket alot when I was in my 30's. I've had close to 10 full dislocations, the fist two were reset by doctors, the remainder I reset it myself. The interesting thing here is the 3rd and 4th dislocations occurred while in Aruba the same day ! It popped while trying to jump up to grasp a mango from a tree we stopped for, while heading to baby beach. After I reset it (this is where I learned to do it myself), I later dislocated it again trying to swim at baby beach as it was still loose.

Good news, my shoulder (knock on wood) has not dislocated in over 11 years! I have slightly modified my lifestyle, but never had surgery.

My (non medical) suggestions I have used with success for over a decade, furthermore with active lifestyle:
    - Once healed, Rotator cuff exercises with very light weight and stretch bands
    - Weight lifting is the best thing for supporting the shoulder (avoiding barbell overhead presses or anything that irritates it)
    - flexibility
    - realize you're no longer in your 20's

Just know that resetting yourself can be risky. It is a trick, one can cause more damage going back in, even rip the primary nerve to the arm

Wow I just read this post!
I recently went on a hiking tour in Puerto Rico at the rainforest El Yunque with my niece. We got to the water falls and you had to climb up to swing on a rope and land in the water. In my 20s & 30s, I used to be a daredevel doing bungee jumps and all kinds of crazy activity. While at the rainforrest I felt like I was in my 30s but I said to myself, hey your not. So I did not do the rope swing and just watch out for my niece.

I've never done the Jolly Pirates but I'm pretty sure i would be tempted to do the rope swing. After reading your story I won't try it! I will just sit back, watch and sip rum..Thanks for sharing!
