Yes, the winds were VERY strong yesterday (Tuesday, January 12th). We noticed the palm trees dramatically swinging back and forth - we were inland.

Here's a video of the waves and the flooded beach - this is in the vicinity of MVC and Oceania on Eagle Beach. Apparently there was a storm near Puerto Rico which affected the Caribbean surf.

Great video Amy, those waves don't look like anything I have ever witnessed in Aruba. The ruff side is not typically that ruff, lol. I think the police made the right call closing the beach. I am shocked that people stayed under the palapas with at least one palapa tipping over, it seems like others would have same risk, right? Those were some big boy waves...who says you can't surf in Aruba

    High Seas/Big Waves=danger

the past 2 days have proved dangerous along the beaches and on the ocean in Aruba.

my friend who is a resident wrote to me "Well, the first named storm of the season, Alex, from thousands of miles away turned our calm seas into a deadly mistress. One local fisherman and a German tourist succumbed. The fisherman washed up at Rogers beach today, missing since yesterday. Broken parts of his boat washed up with him.The tourist was German and was 79. The waves, despite red flag warnings on the beach, took him between Bucuti and Costs Linda".

    Tragic and sad.

if you are in Aruba, be careful in the waves.
