It's still much better than the devastation the other islands see when they get hit by category 3+ hurricanes. While not ideal, it's still better than most islands.
Thanks for the info Retagger!Last night was crazy. The Aruba government issued a severe weather alert last night which caused long lines at the gas pumps. The line for the gas station by Linda's pancakes reached the street.
We had heavy rain but it was not as bad as excepted. The Noord Dam by my house seems to be full which is causing minor flooding to a few homes directly adjacent to the dam. It was lightly raining a few minutes and dark clouds are rolling in again.
At least I am doing many chores around the house which is keeping my wife happy...
I have been looking around the weather predictions every few hours, and it seems there is a 60 percent chance that the current depression may turn into a tropical storm (Matthew), I hope it won't and the weather won't affect the island in any way.
You are do lucky to live on Aruba (at least that is how I understand it) it is the best place in the world!
Does this means the ATM's partly are not working Mark?Ya I spoke too soon about the sun, It only lasted about 1/2 hour. Today was a complete wash out and alot of traffic jams on the island and a few major road jams on the island. The weather is also effecting alot of business as the tourists are staying at the hotels. Also the cruise season begun and a cruise came in today and most people stayed on the boat. Also of interest the Aruba Bank in Noord can not do any money transactions for the last day or two and due to a computer/phone problem weather related and not sure when it will be fixed.
How are things this evening weather wise?
At this moment from what I heard Monday the weather will be back to OK again, it depends on what the current depression will turn into, some expect it may be leaving soon as tomorrow, very conflicting reports.
Arubalisa already said it, the UV index is 11, so even if it is cloudy high protection is still needed, be careful!
Thanks for your updates!
this IS a big deal to Arubans as they do not know what to do with all of this rain.
Being there in 2004 for the indirect effects of hurricane IVAN, i can tell you that when the rain comes from one of these systems it is horrible for places that have poor drainage.
the weather outlook looks a bit brighter for today!
Thanks to everyone on here for all of your updates. Please do keep sending them. It looks like weather will be much better as of Monday, let's hope this does not change. I feel like a meteorologist trying to interpret all of these charts and storm patterns, haha.
Last night it rained on and off and today cloudy and raining. Brenda yes the atms and other banks are open. Just if you deal with Aruba bank with paying bills, checks, deposits you have to go to a different branch which is about 1/2 hour drive and longer lines. Just remember that if you are renting a vehicle be carefull when driving there is no drainage on the roads and some of the traffic lights are not working.
OK thanks Mark, then I do not have tp bring to much cash with me.
I have watched the forecasts again (and again and again ) and it seems like Monday the weather is back to usual, at least according to half of the predictions.
I have seen hour to hour forecasts and am trying to see if they are accurate for today, please if you can give an update of later today.
Andrea do you know if there are any webcams that I can watch every now and then?
-edited to say found the webcam!-
