what do you do under the palapa?

I was recently on a cruise and spent a lot of time walking around the ship.

I noticed lots, as folks were "occupied" while sitting poolside, in the shade and in the sun, also sitting along the public areas of the ship.
By "occupied" they were knitting or crocheting, coloring, crossword puzzles, soduku...etc.
(I am not mentioning reading, but there weren't as many reading as i had thought)

So my question is........while you are sitting/lying poolside or on the beach, are you doing something other than snoozing or reading?

Normally i am listening to an audiobook or playing on the iPad.

I'm in the water more than under the palapa but while sitting I enjoy just watching the waves. Tom will be in the Ipad playing Texas Holdum.

I have a couple of books loaded onto my Nook. Listen to music and play games on my iPhone and chat with friends.

Enjoy cocktails, people watch, post pictures on social media and interact with friends who are commenting on them, talk about what we are having for dinner, and talk about plans we have for the trip that usually never happen because we end up back under the palapa. We spend a lot of time laughing and joking, and a lot of time just sitting quietly, reflecting, and watching the waves, taking in all the colors, sights, and smells of the beach. We also day dream about businesses we could start on the island.

Are we talking daytime or nighttime

It really depends on the time of the day and who is there with me. I bring books, and my kindle and Nook both loaded with new books for me and the kids, my phone with headphones for music when I'm alone. If there are others with me I usually take that time to soak up some alone time with one of my kids, or sisters in law (from either California or Germany who I don't get to see too often), or my husband. That time on the beach, under a palapa are where some of my most cherished memories are made!

There are some things you just cant "unsee". We also are people watchers when not reading or snoozing. Some of the sights we have seen include(not criticizing anyone) a very young, very pregnant lady in a thong bikini, a family of 6(teenage boy and girl, mom and dad and grandma and grandpa) walking down to the beach in street clothes and stripping naked and putting on their swim suits and on Ren island a guy fondling two women friends naked boobs while a 3rd girl filmed it on her phone.

One of our favorite things to watch are children playing on the beach. We like the ones having fun, laughing and learning to love the sand and sea. Once a little girl maybe age 3 was trying to copy her older sisterst and friends who were doing handstands and cartwheels. It was adorable. Then there were the 2 kids on a water trampoline who looked so small but had no fear jumping and flipping, even off the sides into the water. It just brings a smile to your face to see them having so much fun.

Read, nap, check out people, and repeat over and over and over.
