i am sorry i cannot remember the name.
At the Plaza Cafe were as well local artists playing music.

And at the Tropicana Cafe (close to Hung Paradise) was sometimes dancing classes (salsa). Sitting outside was fun watching the dancers inside and listening to the Latin-American music.

(Glad I'm not the only one forgetting names! )

Are you staying until 5 December? Sinterklass is arriving at the harbor! That would be really fun to watch!

Then, there is the Bonbini Festival. I have been there and LOVED it!
    From their website:

    L.G. Smith Blvd
    Oranjestad Aruba

    Phone: +297-582-6099
Bonbini means “Welcome!” in Papiamento, and this weekly folkloric music and dance festival is the perfect introduction to the warmth and hospitality of Aruba’s people. The Bonbini Aruba Festival takes place in downtown Oranjestad every Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the outdoor courtyard of Fort Zoutman, Aruba’s oldest building. Enjoy the flavor of the island, its history people, music and cuisine during this entertaining evening held every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m, entrance is only $5.

we watched sinterklaas arrive by boat last year.
there was a huge crowd, mostly kids and the parade down the boulevard to the area near west deck was fun to watch.

What else is there to do downtown Oranjestad? To get lost!

Yes! Be adventurous! Enter the labyrinth of the one-way-streets and see where it leads you!
At least, that is what I did from time to time. That's how I discovered St. Ana Church and the cemetery.

I also love to look at architecture. There are still very beautiful historic buildings.

At one point, I just entered a local bar because it was hot and I needed to drink some water. A local man on the bar invited my right away to drink some rum with him! He spoke Papiamento only but with gestures and smiles, I understood. I politely declined, the rum would have landed my under the table! LOL

"Casa di Cultura" can also be fun.
It's not typical touristic, rather a possibility to mingle with locals to enjoy art and music. During Christmas, they present sometimes the famous ballet show "The Nutcracker".

    Here is their FB site:

Their official website is under construction:

Wow CK, so much great info! I found a great map of the layout of the marketplace (simple google search). Thanks to you and everyone for all the tips. Keep them coming!

We will only be downtown for 3 nights so we wont be there for the 5th. Thats our last full day which traditionally is spent under a palapa fromsun up to sun down.
