Our first trip we stayed at the Ren Marina. The private island was the absolute greatest thing ever. Iguana Joe's was the first place we went for food and drink and continues to be a favorite of ours to this day. It's a great place to sit and relax and people watch, get a table by the rail overlooking LG Smith. We still stop by Blu every visit for a drink. We enjoyed Paddock, the Dutch Pancake House, and of course Carlos and Charlie's now closed . We also enjoyed shopping on the streets downtown, it was more of an island-like experience and we ate in places I don't even remember the names of, but remember the food. We rode the bus everywhere, found Charlie's bar in San Nic and saw a lot of the island we would have never gone to otherwise. You guys will have a blast downtown.

We always go downtown at least once sometimes twice a trip, love it! One of our favorite things to do is walk the marina and look at all the beautiful yachts (I secretly wish some day someone will invite us in) maybe this year For the past 3 years have dined at LG Smith's which is great. Love to stop in for lunch sometimes or just a drink at Iguana Joe's and must bring home some of their hot sauce. Always stop by Paddock for a cold beer or two and sit outside in the back to check out how many more pieces of the poor Indian, Captain and Cowboy wooden statues are missing Also seeing as we are down there I usually try out the Crystal Casino, enjoy playing roulette there. This year I do plan on checking out West Deck one evening for sunset. I still want to ride the trolley if I can ever get there before they stop running for the day (heard that they stop in early evening)? I also still want to try Hung Paradise went last year but was closed for an hour or so in the middle of the day so missed out. Love downtown and watching the people. Oh and don't forget to have your picture taken in front of the "I LOVE ARUBA" sign of course

    Ah Downtown...
its got its own vibe, personality, and hustle.
we bought at Renn suites many years ago.
We know the downtown area like the back of our hand.
when we stay there, we literally STAY there.
When staying at Surf, we STAY THERE.
two different vacations at 2 different resorts.

We've seen downtown morph meant times. It's lovely now. It wasn't always lovely.
We love the restaurants, the newly done streets and shops, the private island and its proximity to all walkable places.
The Ren marketplace isa fun place to hang for dinner, ice cream and yogurt, drinks and casino. When in downtown we feel no need to leave. When not staying there we feel no need to visit.

everyone should visit it and get to know it. And of course as mentioned take your picture in front of the Aruba Sign.

I like that the entire downtown can be walked around in a reasonable amount of time - relative to cities like Toronto, NYC, London, Paris etc. it's nice to have a city that's slower in pace but with all the amenities you need to get by on the island. You know.... Kiehl's...

I'm sorry to inform you of this, Tracey, but you've been photo-bombed by an Aruba sign.

We will only be downtown for 3 nights so we wont be there for the 5th. Thats our last full day which traditionally is spent under a palapa fromsun up to sun down.
    You are most welcome, Tracey.
So much to do, so little time. Whatever you decide: have fun and enjoy!

Just amazing on what you know. You're like the stealth tourist( do you own) who flies in, drops us info, and flies off. Simply amazing. Let me thank you right now before I go back to this post!! You are my hero
    Oh WOW! Thank you, Cindy!
I have only been to Aruba four times, a week each. But, I was very, very lucky to have some great friends who showed me places, which I would not have found by myself. I also like being active and exploring while on vacation. As I mentioned, I travel by myself as we have several large dogs (difficult to find a dog sitter) and my DH stays home. I noticed, traveling by myself, my whole focus is on my surroundings, I soak everything up! I love taking pictures and SEE, really SEE so many beautiful things which I then capture in my photos. I'm also very outgoing and have little chats many times with different people (tourists and locals) when I travel. In short: my vacations are very intense. Being only one week on vacation feels like having spent four weeks.

After my first visit to Aruba, I really explored the island from top to bottom, a friend told me: "In this one week, you have seen more of the island than me, coming here for 14 years!" Yes, that sums it up.
