Smile What Was Your "Magical Aruba Moment"

Okay...so I'm a 'seasoned traveler' (whatever the heck that means) but this is my first time in Aruba. So, I'm trying to plan a birthday trip for my girlfriend (shhhhhh...it's a a secret) and looking to build "Magical Moments". Those times that you look back (years from now) and fondly remember...that minute.

My travel philosophy has always been to remember 'moments' and not dates...or planned activities...or events. Think back...you remember that 'feeling as the sun set and your love squeezed your hand' or "the first time you tried snorkeling and fell in love with it" or that moment on the island when you thought "this is perfect".

    What was your 'Magical Moment"?

For us it was always that first Aruba Ariba on the beach after checking in..... now it's the welcome mojito at Manchebo while we're checking in...! It's just so overwhelming knowing we got back to Aruba...!

    There are many!

The first time that warm air hits my face leaving the airport!
The first time I get to see the colors of the ocean driving to the resort!
Watching the island wake up from my balcony, laptop on my lap, coffee in my hand!
Watching the sun dip into the ocean in 3.2 seconds (or so it feels) from anywhere on the island - balcony, restaurant, beach
Seeing a LaCabana bartender for the first time that year, and he/she hands me an Aruba Arriba saying "Welcome Home Miss Jacki"

my aruba moment was in 1979.
friends and i were on a scuba trip to bonaire (a charter).
some of us opted for a pre and post aruba as part of this trip.

it was the same moment that jacki described.
the warmth of aruba hitting one's face.

So many, but probably the first catamaran snorkel trip with Roberto way back when. Loved the wind, the reefs, the fish, and definitely the rum punch on the return trip.

My Magical Moment occurred on my first visit. My connecting flight from Curacao had been delayed by an hour( Insel) so by the time we took off it was already dark outside. For starters the aircraft was one of those really small models, I'm talking the type where you can see your luggage in the back of the aircraft and I expected there to be a lot of turbulence. Not one bit. As I was getting settled in for the flight the young lady sitting next to me pointed towards the cockpit window and said, "We're here!!" From the window my first sight of Aruba were the lights of the Palm Beach area and Oranjestad. As the aircraft got closer and closer for landing this feeling of Total Relaxation, something I had not felt in a long time. I was expecting to have to walk from the aircraft to the terminal building, much to my surprise we were put on a bus which took us up to the building. At that time the airport was near deserted with only one or two more flights due to arrive or depart, but even so the soothing sounds of steel pan music could be heard coming through the P.A. system. I was really surprised by the quick trip through Immigration, even after having to fill out the cards while standing in line( because they neglected to give them to us on the aircraft) and an even quicker trip through baggage claim before I was outside with my relatives. There was something in the air in addition to that feeling of relaxation, just could not put my finger on it. On the drive to CPV my uncle took a detour through the High Rise area, the place was jumping. I'm talking people were out and about, the entire stretch stretch looked like it was a Friday night; and I thought that it was a Friday night. Till I had to remind myself that it was a Sunday night. That night was capped off with my first taste of Sunday Barbecue from New We-Tai; which added greater emphasis to that first magic moment of my first night on my first visit to Aruba.

Our first trip: we had a flight that arrived in total darkness and didn't have GPS or any of the tech we've become so accustomed to. We drove around in circles (literally, roundabouts) until, through some miracle, ended up at the first house we ever rented. Knowing the island now, it's incredible we found the place (it's in the middle of nowhere in Paradera).

The most distinct moment was my first face plant into the pool knowing that we'd found the Caribbean island we were going to retire to.

My magical moment was my first trip to Aruba. I hadn't traveled much and my boyfriend took me to Aruba as he had been and loved it. While we were eating dinner the first evening, I said to him "If I could only have this one day here, I would be happy." Little did I know that would come true! At 6am the next morning we got a phone call that my then 15 year old son was hospitalized. We jumped on the next flight out and headed home - less than 24 hours on the island. As it turned out, he recovered and we returned to Aruba 4 months later to finish the trip.....new rule....never say anything like that again!!! Since then our magical moment is when we are flying in and we see the island out the window( I always book seats on the left of the plane) and the captain says Welcome to Aruba - ahhhhhhh...the stress just floats away....

PS - The Divi AL was super to us during that horrible time and when we returned in March, they remembered us and said welcome back and inquired about my son. There was also a bottle of wine, two glasses and two t-shirts in our room. We've been fans ever since and are going back for trip #6 in 77 days!!!
Hopefully we'll be back in Spring 2018

Our first day on the island was also our first time out of the country. I hadn't done much research or planning and our first day at the Tropicana we didn't really know where to go or what to do. Our room wasn't what we expected, as we weren't aware that it was a timeshare. The restaurant and convenience store prices scared us since we had a tight budget. The next morning we took the bus to get on Jolly Pirates. That moment, on the boat, surrounded by beautiful water, and finally feeling comfortable and relaxed after a nervous first day...that was it. The breeze, the water, and the friendly pirates. It was a whole new level of relaxation. That day we realized in the beginning we were Palm Beach people.

Now my moments are found in the early morning on the beach as the island wakes up. It's quiet and perfect.
