When did you first hear about Aruba?

When I was young, my mom used to watch Wheel of Fortune. Often, one of the prizes was a trip to Aruba, and it always sounded very exotic. Several years later, my husband and I were planning our honeymoon and really didn't know where we wanted to go. We met with a travel agent, and with an late winter trip in mind and wanting to go some place warm, she asked us if we had ever considered Aruba. Well, we hadn't, but it sounded wonderful. We stayed at the Concord, which later became the Wyndham (where, several years later, we stayed on our second trip without realizing it was the same hotel until we entered the lobby), and is now the Westin.

A few of our Aruba firsts: leaving the US; riding on a moped; watching the sunset over the ocean (had only seen the sunrise over the Atlantic); seeing girls in thong bikinis (we took pictures for our; eating duck at the Windmill Restaurant; having mayonnaise on my French fries at the only fast food restaurant in Aruba at that time, at least that we were aware of - Burger King; dark skinned part Italian husband had never had a sunburn in his life and tested fate by using oil on our third day, and as it turned out, he could burn, but thankfully, it wasn't serious.

We were looking for a honeymoon spot for Sept. 1996. One of our local charter airline companies was offering $199 airfare for Sept. to either St. Maarten or Aruba. We were trying to save money since we just bought our first house so we couldn't pass up this deal. St. Maarten was crossed off of the list because of hurricane season. So we went to the book store and pulled a few books from the shelves about Aruba (we didn't know a thing about it - we usually traveled to Mexico for our beach vacations). We liked what we saw in the travel books, so we booked it! We stayed in a lanai room just steps from the beach and our palapa at the Aruba Palm Beach Resort & Casino (later known as the Aruba Grand and now the Riu.) We've gone to Aruba every year since then (sometimes twice a year) but we still go to other destinations as well (so much of the world to see yet!)

We always remember when DePalm Pier was just a pier with nothing on it....just a pier where you sat at the end and dangled your feet over the side, drink in hand (from our frig in our room - had to bring your own), and watched the sunset. Very quiet, very few people around (if any) and so relaxing.

We were planning our honeymoon for October 1998, went to a travel agent who suggested Aruba since it was hurricane season. We were offered a time share trade as a wedding gift so we stayed at the Aruba Beach Club and loved every second of our first time in Aruba, in the Carribean, and first vacation together

I met this amazing lady one day, ended up falling in love with her, and during the course of conversation in the midst of the "getting to know you" stage, she came out and said, "Would you mind travelling to Aruba once in a while for a vacation?"
Honestly, Aruba was nothing more than a spot on the map to me, she however had been there five times already. I'm not one to make waves so I said, "Hey, sure, I'll go with you..." (don't have to twist my arm for an opportunity like that) and now it's been a 10 year love affair with the island and its people for me, 15 years for her.
We rarely but occasionally think of going to another island, but the reality of it is, this is a place that makes us feel ridiculously happy, incredibly safe, and wonderfully at home.

Hey, we did our vows there, that says it all for us.

Divi All inclusive is the best !!!
Mom & Dad have been going to Aruba for many years before we did. They talked about how beautiful and safe they felt when they were there. One year for Christmas (2003) Dad announced he was taking the whole family to Aruba. We all stayed at the Divi , and even little Colleen who is now 6 years old came along in my belly We all had such a wonderful time, we have gone almost every year now ! It is our home away from home. And cant imagine going anywhere else. AHHHHHRUBA !!

I knew lots of people who had been to Aruba over the years and said how beautiful it was. Fast forward to 2006 and I was turning 50 in November. I wanted to treat myself to a nice birthday vacation. I started shopping around and Aruba was already beckoning me through various web pages. I asked my BFF if she wanted to go (needed a break from hubby and kid), she said yes, and the rest is history! My first full day in Aruba was on my 50th! I will never, ever forget that feeling!

Druif Beach, Downtown, our condo at Divi Golf and Beach resort, the pool there, Smokey Joes BBQ, Salt and Pepper, Mi Dushi Bagels, El Gaucho, Pizza Bob's...everything!
Almost the same story, Corona. Shannon and I went to a travel agent to plan our honeymoon. We had strong intentions on going back to MX but he was a big fan of Aruba, and happened to just gotten back. We checked it out, and went and stayed at the Westin, it was surreal. Coming from OH I couldn't for a moment believe that this place could possibly be real! Everything we desire from a vacation, blue, clear water, abundant sun and warmth, and great beer!

I always thought people who bought timeshares were not quite right in the head, you know? But we went on the visit, and bought at the then not developed Divi Links, and we couldn't be happier! The craving we have to go back every year starts within a month of returning to the states and doesn't let up until we get back!

    Love it!!

    moomba, stellaris casino, baby beach,
honeymoon in aug 2005 - we knew we wanted a Caribbean location but didn't want to gamble with the hurricane season. the casinos also helped tipped the weight towards aruba. we conceived our 1st child on our honeymoon and have been visiting since then - 7x thus far with an 8th next week. brought my entire extended family down 2 years ago, from which 1 bought a timeshare. we're all going again this summer.

fun, clean, safe, kid friendly, and casinos to tie the night down when you can't take any more liquor after 12 hours of drinking throughout the day. what more can you ask for.
