wi fi and texting question.....lol

ok...my teenage son is holding me hostage and wont go this year without wifi and texting. he has an i-phone and a laptop....has to stay in touch with the girlfriend i guess....being pretty tech illiterate.....how do i go about making sure he is connected?

i feel like an idiot asking this.....lol...should just leave his ass home...!!!!!

if you have verizon and the iphone is thru them.......there is no sim card.
roaming, data and international fees will apply.


if you folks have another service, iphone is unlocked and has a sim card the it can work!!! u'd have to buy a sim card on aruba for the iphone. (digicel or setar) the rest is all greek to me. inquire with your wireless service and inquire too about personal hotspot.

if i bring the girl with me there may be another "incident" on our beautiful island....LOL.....

he needs to be able to text or skype.....he has a laptop so i am thinking if he has a connection all will be ok....now i have to find out about that....i do not understand any of it...lol

My I-phone service is with AT&T. They offer an international texting plan that I used while in Aruba. It was $10 for 50 texts during the month. They normally prorate but if you tell them you want all 50 text you pay the flat fee. (Check with your phone carrier to see what is available) Unfortunately 50 text for a teenager isn't much. He will also need to make sure he has the WiFi "on" if not, there are large fees for using the cellular service to access the internet. Some of the hotels offer WiFi (some free and others charge.) Check with the resort where you are staying. Skype is a great alternative to texting and he would also be able to use Facebook to text via the laptop.

You can Skype with a laptop and regular wifi internet access. We do it all the time to keep in touch. No international charges, minutes to run out or whatever. Skype to Skype is free (aside from the cost of wifi) and all you need is a laptop.

Skype to a phone costs a small amount. Check out their website.

Just an update on the Verizon IPhone. If you have the IPhone 4S from Verizon, it does have a sim card that can be replaced with a sim from Aruba. However, you must contact Verizon to have the IPhone unlocked first. You can do this while in the US before you get to Aruba.

i had my iphone at the verizon store a few weeks ago asking that very same question to be told NO.
