WiFi Internet Access

I was wondering if anyone has first hand knowledge of the quality of the WiFi Internet access at the Aruban Resort and Casino. I know that Setar has a deal for 24 x 7 access for $35.00. Is the service decent?

Thanks,
Frank

The Aruban Resort does not use Setar; they use the company Aruba Wireless. They charge they same as Setar - $35 week or $70 a month. You don't have to buy a card. In the Start menu, under "Connect To" click on Aruba Wireless. A page will come up that you can choose: day, week, month. Then you put in your credit card info.

Wi-Fi service is terrible at The Aruban with Aruba Wirless. It depends on where your unit is of how good the connection will be. The closer to the Lobby, the better the connection.

The Aruban does have another Wi-Fi service. A modem is plugged into the laptop. This gives you a faster connection from any unit at The Aruban. You have to bring the laptop to the front desk to have them install software on your computer. There is a $250. deposit fee put on your credit card to get the modem. This service works great but is $45. a week. I stay at least a month which makes it expensive for me as they don't give a discount as Setar or Aruba Wirless does for the service.

Liz,
Thanks for the information. I have a company computer and I doubt if they would like someone loading software on my computer. I'll have to either rough it with the Aruba wireless company or sign up for Setar and drive to one of their hotspots. However, under the Setar website they mention that one of their hotspots is at the La Cabana. Perhaps I'll buy for a day and see how it works first.

P.S. How is the renovation at the Aruban Resort going?

  • when using the setar or other wifi the site is not secure, so care is needed when using the wifi. in aruba a few weeks ago, i chose to do some online banking and then nixed the idea as the access was not secure.
  • renovations at the aruban...................if they were going any slower, it'd be dead
the casino work at the aruban has been halted (for quite some time now)

the unit renovations are slower than one can imagine.

liz can give you a better idea of the renovation status

There is a fellow at the front desk at the Aruban that loads the software. He can tell you by your room location if Aruba Wireless will work or not. Sorry I don't know his name. Don't ask any of the girls at the front desk - I really doubt if they would know - they are all new. If you purchase Setar, you can use it in the lobby of La Cabana. You don't need to buy a day card to see if it works. It works fine there. I'll give a plug to Cafe Rembrandt & Bingo's. They both have Free Wi-Fi.

As for renovations, it's going to be a long time (years) before the units are completed. Right now they are working (very) s l o w l y on the "B" building - the side building by Key Largo Casino. The only 1 bedroom that is renovated is my unit #1520 which I can't use (for the 2nd year) in April as its the model unit.

Thanks Liz. My company has a secure portal I can log into, so I can do all of my business through them, banking etc.
