Wondering

We have been to Aruba 11 times this will be our 12 and hopefully wonderful trip....my only concern is that last trip I noticed a somewhat different element. It seems, according to someone who works there that there are not enough Aruban folks for all the jobs and therefore more people are coming from other islands etc....it is apparent when you start looking around...and they have a very different attitude from the local folks.... hope this isn't our last trip.

Re: Wondering

Good point! I did not notice last April any differnce, there has always been folks from other islands working as housekeepers, ground and pool, beach and they are always very friendly and polite. I do notice since the first time I started to visit Aruba in 89, that the locals always have the better jobs, i dont have a problem with that you should first give an opportunity to your people before bringing in others to do the job. I heard that there is a job for everyone who wants one, and there are more jobs then there are local folks.
I will for sure be observing this April on my 13th trip to see if any difference in attitude, i have 2 weeks to observe, and hopefully the friendly attitudes of the locals will still be the same.
I wonder if its our attitude that is changing and getting more demanding, my thought is treat others as you want to be treated.

Re: Wondering

FOR THE MOST PART THE PEOPLE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VERY FRIENDLY AND ACCOMMODATING AND THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS I KEEP GOING BACK. I'VE BEEN GOING TO ARUBA FOR 17 YEARS AND THE PEOPLE ARE SOME OF THE NICEST I'VE EVER MET. DON'T FORGET WE SORT OF GET USED TO THE PAMPERING AND SOMETIMES MAY TAKE IT FOR GRANTED. BUT WHEN WE RETURN TO WORK WE CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT PAMPERING AGAIN! HAPPY PAMPERING!

Re: Wondering

This will be our 23rd year to Aruba. It's true that they have employed alot of people from Venezuela now...I think that we have been so used of having the Arubian people-that we do see the change. I must agree that not all "tourists" are patient and some are VERY demanding...and this has to be very waring on the "employee's" after a while. Sometimes I am embarrassed when I hear tourists demanding things, etc....everyone should "slow down"- treat all employee's with respect and "enjoy Aruba"-
