Red face working in aruba!!

Hello
Well I initially sent a post stating I was going to Aruba, I am now finally going to Aruba this saturday, after much delay for bureaucratic reasons, to begin working as an engineer at the refinery. I was told I will be living on site living quarters.

Just wondering if there are any other Valero workers out there who work on the refinery? If so any tips, words of advice?

From everything I see on the internet and posts here, Aruba is a wonderful place to be! So I look forward to it. THe only thing I am worried about is being away from family and friends for so long. I just hope the housing provided is decent!

any input about living, or working for Valero, in aruba would be wonderful!

I wish you well. Such an exciting time, but like you said, leaving friends and family. Hopefully they will be able to come to visit. Make sure you check out http://www.skype.com/ for a real cheap way to stay in touch with home.

Last thought, have they put you in touch with any of your co-workers to find out what stuff you should bring from the states that are hard to get on the island? I know my Aruban friend brings an extra suitcase or two home to her family when she goes to visit. Just don't know what is in them. Either way she spends a lot of time at Wal-Mart pre-visit...

unfortunatly my company has not provided me with extra info or contact info from workers on the island at this time. my company is actually a subcontractor of Valero and I am the first of a few who are being sent out there so there are not a whole bunch available for me to ask.

So not in a good position. Thanks for the info on Skpye.com will try it out!!

THANKS
MATT

good luck Matt, get use to the Bureaucratic ways in Aruba. Bet your biggest hold up was your "work permit",even the Dutch have problems getting one. and Skype is the only way to call the U.S.. I call from China and its only 2 cents a min. PAT
