    Your Aruba

Thank you all for the warm welcome (from post on culinary and culture). We will, for sure, have more questions before November rolls around. Obviously, you all love Aruba. Just wondering how long you have been visiting Aruba, how many visits have you made, what got you hooked, are there any snowbirds that spend your entire winters there? What keeps you going back?

I know of only a handful of folks that do not love aruba.

My first visit to Aruba was on new year's eve 1979, .........we were spending a week diving in bonaire and had an add on day pre and post in aruba.

We took a break while our son was an infant til he was about 8 (Disney and cruises and Florida called our names).
We headed back to Aruba again with much regularity beginning in 1996 or 1997 sometimes going 2 x a year.

We retired in 2008, looked into moving to Aruba, but financially and logistically felt it would not work for us.
So we are now in Florida full time and are HAPPY when the snowbirds leave every April.

We think we are on visit 51 or 52.

We go back because we love the beaches, the people, the weather, the casinos, and the comfort. By comfort I mean I feel safe there.

I look forward to reading the replies and looking forward to your impression and thoughts in November when you return.

    Where will you be staying?

We are currently planning our 14th trip. Started vacationing in Aruba in 2009. We were drawn to the people, the beaches and just the overall feeling you have while in Aruba. It really is the only place that I ever feel stress free. There is something therapeutic about the ocean and I can stay in the water for hours. Our first 8 or 9 trips were at an all inclusive. It was our first experience with AI and we liked the freedom of it but we have since branched out. Our preference is the low rise area as it is more laid back and the beaches are less crowded. However, we have also stayed in the high rise of Palm Beach and enjoyed that experience as well.

I’m always appreciative of how Arubans go out of their way to make others feel comfortable. For the 4th of July they have fireworks and on Thanksgiving the restaurants offer special menus. These gestures make me feel genuinely welcome.

We have been going since 2011, and head back for our 9th trip later this year. We love the beaches, the people, and how you can have several different types of vacations in such a small place. We can stay in Palm Beach and bar hop our way through our trip, or we can stay over in the Eagle or Manchebo area and just veg out on the beach. We can spend the day snorkeling in the beautiful blue waters or sailing, or go 4 wheeling through the desert. We like not being stuck to our resort, and having the option to bring our own drinks to the beach to save a little money.

Our first visit was our honeymoon in 1998. We fell in love with the everything about the island and swore we would be back for our 5th anniversary & bring our daughter because we missed her just a little too much. I think it was 6 years later that we finally returned and have been going every year since. There is really nothing that we don't love. The beaches are amazing, the snorkeling, the people, the Aruba Arribas, the casinos, the exploring, the caves, the history, the culture and most importantly for me is the stress-free time I get to enjoy with my family.

....First in 2003 and currently on our 15th trip...... it's just the perfect destination for us..... We did the High Rise area for years and moved to the low rise area 4 years ago..... We've found the best spot for us is Manchebo Beach resort...... quiet.... not a lot of kids..... no water sport noise and really nice staff.

    ohiopeeps made a great thread.
    everyone's answers are interesting.

I am interested in reading of those that purchased a home in aruba and how long they visited as hotel or timeshare guests til they made the big purchase.

Thank you all for sharing....always interested in other's travel experiences. We will be in Aruba in November for two weeks and will be there for Thanksgiving so will get a chance to check out dinner menus for the holiday. We are staying at an Airbnb in Noord (about a 15 min walk to Eagle beach). Its pretty much the way we travel nowadays. We've had wonderful experiences staying in locals homes. It a great way to get the inside scoop on an area and meet local people. Definitely lots of beach time will be in order.... I hope to get a fishing trip in.... We plan on renting bikes for at least part of our stay (we're pretty avid cyclists here at home and do quite a bit of road riding). Other than that, we don't really have anything definite planned yet but we still have a few months to plan ...or just wing it when we get there.
We currently babysit our two grandsons, but in a couple years we hope to be doing more traveling and spending more time away from Ohio winters! Aruba sounds and looks like a great place to start

Our first vacation in Aruba was in 2001 and have returned every since. The first 3 years we went for 1 week ea. Then we started going for 2 weeks. We went one year for 3 weeks, but found that a little long and went back to 2 weeks. We don't rent a car. We either walk, take the bus or take a taxi. We try to divide our time between Eagle and Palm beaches. We love most everything about Aruba...the beaches, the weather, the fact that the people of Aruba speak our language and take our money and they are so friendly and welcoming. We love all wonderful restaurants.

We first started going in 2010 and have gone each year since. This will be our 9th year in a row. It started out 10 days but we keep upping the amount of time. we usually go mid-November to mid-December. this trip in November it will be for 30 days. We always rent a place. We have been renting a townhouse for the last 8 years. I just ditto everyone else's comments, love it in Aruba.
