bringing an infant in August

Hi!
My husband just got news that I am pregnant. When I told me parents, they let us in on a surpise that they had booked Aruba for the four of us! I am due early June and they booked the trip for mid-August! I have to get my doctor's opinion, of couse but I am wondering if/how I can get a passport for my 2 month old baby. Will I need a passport???
Any input would be appreciated.
Dana

Re: bringing an infant in August

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I do think your infant will require a passport by then,
and...I do think it will be pretty easy to travel with a baby.Babies are so portable,
I do not know if you will breastfeed or formula feed. but If formula feeding, just buy powder and you can buy bottle water there. bring a stroller, check it at the gate.
Lots of stuff to bring, but hey, its Aruba,go and enjoy it.Im sure you will not regret it!

>>> "I have to get my doctor's opinion"
--- Brought a grandson to Aruba that age and no problems. Daughter came too. Water and food safer in Aruba than a lot of places in the States.
>>> "how I can get a passport for my 2 month old baby"
--- They are now saying Passports for Aruba not needed till 2007. Just have an Offical State Issued Birth Cert. Hospital issued not good.
Recommend bringing Baby Type Car Seat. Great for carrying baby around airport, around resort, going out to dinner, sitting around dinner table, sitting at beach "UNDER" a beach hut. At one restaurant a owner we knew took grandson on a tour of the kitchen as just had to show off the granson to all the ladies in the kitchen.
Yes grandsons and us all have Passports now.

Congratulation!!
My daughter was six months old on her first trip (this will be her third trip). As soon as your child is born get a passort it will take a few weeks for the passport to arrive and is much easier. Bring your own infant carrier. I'm not sure where you are flying from but from experience - spend the extra money and book a seat - the infant carrier attaches to the belt on the airplane. I brought diapers and powdered formula with me just in case the stores didn't have the brand I used. It's a lot of extra things to carrier but it gave me peace of mind which was more important than an extra bag. The doctor will have you give the baby a bottle on take off & landing for the ear pressure or a pacifier. Your new baby and you will do fine traveling - have a great time !!!

Some resorts have cribs, strollers, etc., so check where you are staying to see if they have these items. We got our formula (liquid) at the pharmacy so check with them as to what they carry and if they have what you need you won't have to bring anything but what you need for the trip. A hat for the baby is a must because the sun is very strong. We brought our grandson at four months for his first trip and he has been coming ever since and he is twelve. Even thinks he owns part of the island. Have a good pregnancy!

Dana, Unless I'm reading it wrong, and I might be but I think that's what Kathy was telling you....that it's worth the extra money to book a separate seat for the baby so he/she can sit in the carrier in his/her own seat.

Re: bringing an infant in August

Thank you to everyone! To answer your questions, I'll fly out of Philly and will be breastfeeding. I have heard that feeding my baby during take off and landing is best for his/her ears. I am SO excited. I can't pass this trip up...especially because my parents are paying! This will be our third trip. My then boyfriend and I went the first time, we were engaged the second time we went (after being together 7 years), skipped 2 years while honeymmoned in St. Lucia and visited Punta Cana and can't wait to go back to Aruba. There is no place like it! I have my parents hooked as well. Again, thanks to everyone for your help!

only if you want to

>>> "Won't I need an extra ticket to bring the carseat??"
Only if you plan to use the seat on the plane. You can carry the child to the plane in the seat. If seat can not fit as carry-on then they will store it for you. When getting off plane they give seat back. Same process as if you have a wheelchair. Yes, some buy a seat for a child but not required if under a certain age. You still need a plane ticket for the child since International Travel. But you are not charge for a seat since not using one. Just tell Travel Agent you have a child age # months. You might be charged some taxes if I remember from 10 years ago.

Re: bringing an infant in August

Hi Dana,

All the better that you will be nursing. MUCH easier.
I nursed all four, and found it was WAAY easier to travel and nurse my babies, than to travel with all that "stuff" to feed my baby.
You will have a blast.
enjoy
