carseats

Are carseats a requirement in Aruba. If so, do they provide them? I'm traveling with a 2 yr old and 1 yr old.

Re: carseats

Car rental companies have car seats but they are not free. There is a minimal fee for one and they have them for all ages of children. You will see most local children riding without car seats but we have never taken a chance. Order the car seat when you reserve your car to be sure they are available. Some people travel with them, but we always rented them along with the car.

Bring your own! Once you get out of the "city", people drive rather poor, locals included!

Re: carseats

Assuming you are flying the car seats are important on the flight, especially if the children have their own seat.

Regardless of the laws in Aruba I have always brought my own car seat for my daughter, it is just a matter of safety.

My only other comment is to agree with Dan, bring your own. You don't know the age or quality (or the number of accidents they have been in) of the ones you can rent at the rental car places.

Aside from that ENJOY ARUBA. This Feb will be my daughter's third year (at age 2 1/2) going down and she loves it more and more each year. And we love it too!

Re: carseats

Don't know if they're required, but it's only common sense to use one. Some rental agencies charge extra.

You can take one on board as checked luggage or carryon. If it's carryon, and you've bought a seat for your child, AND the seat is approved by the FAA for use on a plane, you can use it. If not, the flight attendants will stow the seat for you.

Re: carseats

I agree that car seats are almost a must everywhere- But we have not ever brought them with us to Aruba. In Aruba, the bus system is so nice that we usually only rent a car one day- And then we usually are taking a drive to a few sites.. Needless to say we don't lug their cars seats all that way for one day. (There are no belts on the bus to secure them!) I'm sure I'll get blasted for this view, but looking back at all our trips to Aruba- I'd love for someone to tell me info like this.
