custody papers?

Has anyone traveling alone with a child (and divoriced from the father) ever been asked for custody papers? I am getting the notarized letter from him..we have passports, and I am bringing birth certificates for both of us (just in case) as my child's birth certificate does show some personal info on me..I have my marriage license (from current marriage) showing my nmae change...any help on this?
thanks

Re: custody papers?

Linda,
It has never been a problem for us. I've been traveling with my daughter to all the islands for many years and the subject has never come up. As long as you have the birth cert. or a passport you are good to go! Enjoy and if you get a chance for a fun evening go to Black Hogs for dinner!

Re: custody papers?

As long as you have a passport for him and a notarized letter stating the child is allowed to travel with you to Aruba, etc - you will be fine. I actually was in the same situation and was told to bring the letter but no one ever asked for it.

Re: custody papers?

They never used to ask, but they now MUST have a notarized letter if under 18 years of age from other parent or legal guardian or you are going nowhere.

Re: custody papers?

I just called AA to ask about the birth certficate and photo ID for a child. We have the official BC but no government issued photo ID. They said the BC was enough. Just checking with all of you in regard to a child.

Re: custody papers?

Hello

I just got back from Aruba Labor Day (Sept 5th). I had three boys with me, ages 15, 14 and 10. I was also worried about having a notarized letter from my ex, but decided to chance it because she may have balked at going to Aruba. I had birth certs but no passports for the kids. No problems. I heard that beginning December this year, Passports will be required.
