horseback riding

I promised my 5-yr old, Alexnadra, that we would try horseback riding this trip (her 4th time on the island). We are departing in 25 days and I would love feedback from anyone who has tried one of the horseback riding services with children of similar age to Alexnadra.

Ayo!

Re: horseback riding

I, too, would like more info on this! We are going down in April with my two daughters, who are 6. I haven't said anything to them yet in case we can't do it. Hopefully someone will have info!

Re: horseback riding

Go to www.depalmonline.com and click on "visit our island". then click on horseback riding. I like Rancho Notorious. they match you up with a horse according to your riding abilities.

Re: horseback riding

Try Rancho Del Campo, excellent staff and friendly horses to fit the size, age and experience of rider. We will use them again.
Email them for specifics.

Re: horseback riding

My son went horseback riding in Aruba at the age of 8 or 9. (His first time on a horse not attached to a pole...lol) I don't remember which ranch we used but it was one of the two mentioned above. They did match the horse to his riding ability (i.e. non-existent) but he was a little intimidated. The horse basically did what it wanted to do and walked where it wanted to walk but it made sure that it followed the other horses. It was a pretty slow horse that needed little guidance and/or control-- which was a good thing because at one point when all of the horses started to trot, my son dropped the "red things" as he called them (reigns) and just held onto the horn on the saddle. I don't know if I would recommend it for children as young as yours if they have no riding experience, maybe I was a fool for subjecting mine to it. The terrain in Aruba can be a little tricky on some parts of the paths. My son was terrified that the horse was going to walk him into a cactus (and did come pretty close). If any of your children are "screamers" I definitely would not recommend it because it can scare the horses. Otherwise if you are confident in your child's riding ability (or at least your own), go ahead, it's definitely a great experience. On the other hand, if it is your first time on a horse, get used to it in the states first. Hope this helped.

Re: horseback riding

Thanks. I think we'll skip it for this time. They have no experience at all and it could be disasterous.

Thanks -
