Renting a car vs. bus/cab

We'll be in Aruba next month for 1 week with our teenager. What's the best way to get from hotel (Holiday Inn) to restaurants? One friend recommended renting a car while the other said we'd be fine with buses/walking and cab..Thanks

Re: Renting a car vs. bus/cab

True, you can take a bus or a taxi anywhere. You can also walk to some places in your vacinity. But, there are also alot of places that you will want to see that will cost a fortune by cab. ie Baby beach, there is a lot to do and see on the island and renting a car or jeep is the most sensible way in Aruba to explore the island. Even if you only rent for a few days.

If you are a first time traveler to Aruba, I would recommend public transportation, this will give you an opportunity to learn about the island.

I HAVE DONE BOTH RENTED/TAXIS , RENTAL IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO ! A JEEP WILL COST ABOUT 300 DOLLARS A WEEK.IF YOU ARE NOT AS ADVENTUROUS YOU MAY RIDE A TOUR BUS TO TOURIST SPOTS BUT IT IS ROUGH GOING,TOILETS ON THE BUS IS A PLUS,YOU MAY GET CHARGED FOR TOILETS AT REMOTE SPOTS FOR UP KEEP AND CLEANING ENJOY.

Will anyone tell me what is the best way to get to the Radisson from the airport? Do those hotels have their own shuttles? What will a cab cost me?

Re: Renting a car vs. bus/cab

Aruba is so small that it's almost impossib;e to get lost for very long . I would definately recommend renting your own vehicle , however , I would suggest that if you plan a trip to the back side of the island , get a 4x4 , Jeep or some type of 4x4 , it's just too rough in some places for a car. Renting your own vehicle lets you see things at your own pace , no schedues to keep up with . If you plan on doing that , I suggest makng arrangements online beforehand . If it's a jeep you want , I would suggest American , they seemed to have the best rates available . If you wait until you get to Aruba , you may have to wait a couple of days , they get booked ahead pretty fast and you may have to wait . Anyway you decide , Aruba was the best vacation we ever had , ENJOY!!!!
