ORANJESTAD — Tourism-minister Otmar Oduber (AVP) strives to re-open The Aruban Resort this week. Some thousand tourists are namely expected in the resort this week. “We could hardly send these people a letter stating there are no more hotel rooms.”
Many tourism accommodations are as good as fully booked due to the holidays, says Oduber. “It is therefore important that The Aruban Resort re-opens.” However, the Minister of Tourism does acknowledge that the role of the government is too restricted to get the bankrupt hotel operational again. Nevertheless, the Minister states, it was also unusual that the SVB had swiftly arranged the payment of the dismissal compensation to the more than 200 employees. These employees will now be receiving their money even before Christmas. The Minister had requested to expediate the process after hotel owner KL Sales Marketing & Management Company had been declared bankrupt by the judge last week. It usually takes at least six weeks before the dismissal compensation is paid. Oduber further states that he no longer has contact with Paul Moor, the owner of the building, regarding the hotel’s future. He is negotiating with the Polycom Group. The Aruban Investors Bank is also being consulted to see whether this bank could come up with any means.

I think it is IMPORTANT for ALL to know that the BILINE saying "the aruban resort to open this week" is NOT a sure thing. The article was written on Dec 21.
It is important for folks to not get overly optimistic as the situation is in the hands of the court and other are doing lots of behind of scenes work.

Interesting that the next day this article appeared in the Amigoe.
I think there will be a lot of speculation on what is going to happen
but it's going to take a while before any resolution is reached.

ORANJESTAD — Rudy Geerman, chairman of the trade union FTA, announced that The Aruban Resort Casino will probably be declared bankrupt by the judge on Monday. Curators Ary Swaen and Winfried Croes are still busy with the inventory of the hotel’s financial situation.
According to Geerman, “the curators could come up with a solution for the employees and the hotel quests much sooner if the casino were declared bankrupt on Monday”. Many tourists are expected this week and next week. “It is possible to accommodate these tourists in other hotels this week, but next week will be more difficult”, says Geerman. The employees, who had not received any salary from the hotel since October, had reported to the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) to submit their documents in order to receive their dismissal compensation. If all goes well, a part of the dismissal compensation will be paid tomorrow. Meanwhile, the government is still trying to re-open the hotel. Buyers have announced themselves in the meantime.

Drove by it lastnight to get some dinner to bring home, sorry its closed still, they only have the security lights on nothing else.
I copied this from the Aruban web-site Don't know who sent that email to the owners because I don't have access but asking for maintenance fees now is really gutsy!

Hi All, This will be short. Rip posted in another spot, on Thursday December 30, 2009 we will have some answers for you. Our court case is well prepared. On Monday December 28, 2009 there will be two bankruptcy hearings. One against Key Largo Casino Management NV and one against KL Resort Development Company NV We will have to wait for the outcome. This could pave the way for a new beginning for our resort.
I think you all knew from recent events, this was inevitable. If the court rules in our favor for the escrow account, your 2010 Maintenance Fees will be needed more than ever to stabilize the resort. Curators are appointed to oversee the bankruptcy, it does not effect the COOP Association.
We expect a favorable ruling regarding the Escrow Account if you wish to prepare for a favorable ruling, please request a copy of the wire transfer information. The maintenance fees are the same as last year. I will attach a copy of the fee schedule for 2010 as well. I am hoping that if we prevail you will make every effort to wire these funds on December 31, 2009.
Until I get them properly posted you can request them by email.

that post that you quoted liz, is from "john cole" the owner of that website..
in a nutshell he IS asking folks to get ready to send maintenance fees.
i know no particulars or details about that, but i do know that if i were an owner there the last thing i would do is sink in more good money after bad.
i am following the correspondence on that site, almost as closely as i am following here.
i do not at all like the banter and there have been on occasion personal attacks. but, it is a private site and the rules are made by john. nonetheless, it is the ONLY website that is giving information about the aruban resort.
the ata has not yet given me any guidance as to what to tell people that make inquiries on this site. so, i continue to direct folks to that private site and hope that folks can cut thru what some of us perceive as nonsense and get information.
and....that gentleman, john cole, the site owner has put in thousands of his own dollars to retain aruban law firm to protect and represent he and other owner's interests in the current horror show. he has been the ONLY visible advocate for owner's during this whole debacle.
also, from what i have been told, the Aruban Minister of Tourism is working hard with the court and the court and the ATA have made no announcements as they do not want to prematurely imply anything.
either way this is a nightmare for all involved.
Thanks Andrea for keeping up with this nightmare.
BW
i feel that this is an obligation.
although my interest should be this board, it all goes hand in hand.
this situation has ruined folks' vacations and has hurt folks in their wallets.
many of these folks "community forum members".
i do this for you bill
if we can provide communication and guidance we will continue to do so on this site.
i have no idea what will happen or what the ATA wants me to be saying/doing.
but, until i am told how to proceed, I am working only with my gut feelings and trying to use common sense.
i have been told by an owner, a friendto mind my own business and that the ATA should step in and rescue the place and this is all the government's fault. i disagree. the ATA is acting in conjunction with the courts, the plaintiffs, attorneys and management companies that are hoping to get in and revive the joint!. heck K+L company is an american company, not an aruban company.
all of those that have an interest in aruba should have an interest and opinion in this matter.
it is sad indeed bill.
i wish you and the others well.
and will keep on getting information and relaying it to this forum as it comes.
