Re: Bushiri Hotel
It was quite a surprise to many repeat guests when in the summmer of 2002 Bushiri closed. The rumor was that a new company will buy the hotel and will rename it Cameron and it will reopen by Christmas 2002.This came from the locals. Also, there were some other gossips that Hilton is planning to purchase the property do get some competition against the Marriott which seem to be taking over the whole island.Bushiri is closed, now it seems forever. I just came back from Aruba and went by to see if there is any progress. It is unfortunate, the the whole area looks even worse than last year this time. The small restaurant Tabasco which operated on the premises but was not part of the hotel is out of business.
Looking through the glass door the hotel lobby desk and part of that area towards the beach is gone. The building and the surrounding areas are deserted. The dive shop is history as well, they are operating out of the Renaissance.
At this point the only way the place can be habitable, if the new owner would tear down everything and start a new construction.
Our reservations from Bushiri was moved to the Holiday Inn in 2002 and it was quite a surprise. Almost 4 times as much rooms, and seemed like 8 times more guests. This was our 4th stay in the Holiday Inn, and every year we keep repeating "We did not know how good Bushiri was until it has closed it's doors". We miss not going there, but keep a happy thought that one day it will reopen and it will only be better.
