checking out protocol re: stripping bed

i just had a new member send me a message asking this:

"Is it improper to strip the bed when checking out?"

i replied that in aruba at our LaCabana timeshares, we always strip the bed(s)....we leave the sheets/bedding on top of the bed and all of the towels on the floor in the bathrooms. we figure it would give the housekeeper a bit of a break.

if we are in a regular hotel where we do not know the housekeeping person, we do not strip the bed.
once as renters at Paradise Beach Villas we did strip the bed and were strongly reprimanded by the housekeeping supervisor.

i also said that i would post the question here to see what others do.

Ok, so I am a nut job when it comes to leaving...everyone else just leaves crap lying around and I go behind everyone and cleanup. I know the housekeepers will rewash all dishes but I still make sure they are cleaned and put away. Stove clean, refrigerator,,,etc. I even sweep the floor if I can. I get all the towels and put them in a bunch by door so easier for carrying...Even garbage bags...BUT, I have never stripped the bed, do not even know why I never thought to do it. Probably because I travel for work so much and don't do it at hotel (although I do make sure towels are all in one spot and garage is all together in one bag)...Geez, Andrea now that I am going over what I do I realize I really obsessive compulsive .....better go have a drink and think about this !!!! LOL !!!

In all of our travels (both business and leisure) over many years we have never stripped the bed. That is for housekeeping to do and we tip accordingly.

I do not strip the bed but the last day I do not make it. I try to wash all towels and keep them folded on the washer so they know. I do leave a note and tell them that no one has used the other two bedrooms so they don't have to strip the beds, and no one has used the 3rd shower either. The manager does know its only two of us. If we had company staying over, then I would say nothing. we also clean around and sweep the floors, etc, but we also tip for the housekeeper who comes at the end of our stay. we keep up with things during the time we are there as it is usually over 3 weeks and I clean up as I go along and it is a townhouse, not a hotel room.

All the more reason to strip the bed of course I am just kidding We do not stay in a timeshare but on departure day we try to help out by emptying all the trash bins and fridge etc. into a large trash bag I bring with me in hopes of making it a bit easier on the hardworking housekeepers.

Ugh. No. The sheets are the only thing between you and whatever nastiness is on that mattress. Let somebody else expose the lurking mystery. Blech.

In all my years of travelling for pleasure and when I had my travel business I never stripped the bed. I will sweep the floor if needed. If I have food containers, I will at night bring to an outside trash bin to avoid bugs in my room. Towels I leave in a pile on the bathroom floor.

We neither strip or make the bed. As Amy said, we tip accordingly.

I put this in the same category as clearing the table at a restaurant. Not my job.
