Has anyone stayed at the aruban resort lately?

I have a friend who has gotten a timeshare exchange to Aruban Resort and will be coming to Aruba in two months. He has never been to Aruba and asked me if this is a good resort to stay at. From what I read today was that the Aruban Resort was saved and is now up and running. I do know that the suites were very nice as we have stayed there when the resort was still part of LaCabana. From the negative reports that I have read in the past, I would like to give him some positive information. Since he has never been to Aruba before and had planned to stay at Holiday Inn Sunspree right on the beach until he found out that he was able to do the exchange to Aruba Resort, I was hoping for some feedback from anyone has stayed at the Aruban Resort lately? Was there a shuttle to the beach since it is a big walk and across the boulevard? Has the large casino in the back of the Aruban Resort opened yet? If not, has anyone heard when the the casino will be open? Are the small shops in the Aruban still open? Lastly, my friend was assured that the Aruban Resort is right next store to the Holiday Inn Sunspree and within walking distance. I know for a fact that Holiday Inn is next store to Playa Linda, Marriott Surf Club and Hyatt. Anyway, an honest opinion of resent stay at Aruban Resort would be helpful. Thanks so much.

my answers

we walked thru there this morning at 9:30 it is open it is relatively empty!
NO shuttle to the beach and it is a good 7 minute walk to the beach.
Large casino still closed and it will be years before it is renovated and opened.
The little casino is still closed.
Little shops there......Dunkin Donuts open.
If he was told the Aruban is near the holiday inn , he was misinformed.

carl icahn and co bought the place for a steal in the spring.
it is an interesting project, trying to rehab the place.

you may want to private message mercedes lady and hear her opinion.

When we were staying at LaCabana a few weeks ago I noticed that the big building in the back seemed very dark. Like, not a single light on in any room. I wonder if they are only using the side buildings? On July 30th we drove past and noticed no lights on the "hallway" that faces the street. Big casino doesn't have exterior walls at this point. The little casino was used as a breakfast buffet last year, but this year we didn't see it open up at all as a casino or restaurant.
