Re: Hotel information

Aruba is one of the most safest islands in the Caribbean.

Renaisannce best feature is private island, but you have to get there by boat. They are located in the heart of downtown Oranjestad.

Large upscale resorts: Marriott, Hyatt, Radisson

Smaller, more intimate: Bucuti- great for couples

Re: Hotel information

Craig,
The Renaissance Marina Tower is in the heart of downtown, but the Beach Tower isn't. The beach tower is secluded, but you're still within easy walking distance of many restaurants and shops. The launch to the private island takes only a few minutes. I'd recommend the Beach Tower, but not the Marina Tower. Check out the map on the Renaissance's website.

Re: Hotel information

The Renn is a great hotel if you want to be downtown near clubs and shopping. If you want to be directly on the beach, the Renn is not the place to go.

Re: Hotel information

People say the Marriott is the nicest on the island. It costs the most I think also.
The Hyatt and Radison are very nice, as are some other chains like Wyndham, etc.
The holiday inn is about as 'low rent' as you get, and there's nothing wrong with it, but it's sure not the 'Hilton' or anything, but you should expect that with a Holiday Inn.

They are all on the the same beach and the beach is just as nice at one end as the other. Some of the hotels do have nicer beach huts or chairs than others is the only difference.

As for government unrest? there is none in Aruba. The government there wants you to come to their 'One happy island' and spend your money. Very toursit friendly island. Prob more tourist friendly that most of the rest of the caribbean islands.

If you want government unrest, go to Kingston, Jamacia. Violence in the streets every day there.

Re: Hotel information

I've stayed at the Marriott...January 2002 and it is awesome! We're going back there in October. This place has two pools, both with swim up bars (one is for the hotel resort and the other is located next to it for the condo Ocean Club, but you are allowed to use both. The Hyatt didn't appear to have any REAL balconies and their rates are typically higher whenever I compare and contrast...Marriott has wonderful balconies! The concierge Glen is the best by the bell hop area. GO FOR THE MARRIOTT. IT is the last hotel on the north end of the beach...plenty to do, or walk a smidge beyond on the beach and have your own private swatch of beach! I would buy there if I could afford it!

Re: Hotel information

You'll get the best deal at the Wyndham which I rate 2nd with the Marriott.I think the beach at the Wyndham much better & the Marriott is off the beaten path .You can walk the beach sidewalk to all the hotels except Marriott(which is a mile north of the Holiday Inn). The Hyatt is the nicest hotel & the most expensive on the island.
