Cool Palm Beach without the "ra-ra-ra" possible?

Hello,

I'm interested in finding a place in Palm Beach area that's not in the mega hotel complex and that's right on (or across the street) a beach. Prefer non inclusive so that we can explore the island. Prefer to be within walking distance to a few restaurants.

Is this even possible? Palm Beach appears to be overcrowded. How busy is it during the late June time frame?

I'm organizing a group trip (3 couples). We want to experience the calm aspects of the island without the ra-ra-ra of casinos. If that's not possible I'd like to know that too.

Thank you for your time.

Kilo

Everything it sounds like you want would be at Eagle Beach. Is there a reason why you are stating Palm Beach? Palm Beach has only high rise "mega" resorts. The only exception being the Mill Resort which is across the street from the Westin and receives mixed reviews.

Eagle Beach is quieter but at the highrise/Palm beach there is more places to walk around at night.
My suggestion would be to consider Playa Linda. The Marriott is a big complex as is the Rui and the Westin. Playa Linda is not an all inclusive, nice beach and I am not sure if there is a casino in there??
Rooms have been refurbished and because it is an older building the units are quite large.

Eagle beach is very, very nice but it depends on your needs!

Very good advice for Eagle Beach. I'll review the hotels in that area. Thank you. It's great to have this kind of support! Any experience comparing that area to Punta Cana in Dom. Rep.?

we have a time share at the divi phonex, very quiet at night, no casino. there is construction going on now, last year in march not so bad, a little styrofoam blowing around. the boardwald starts there and goes down to the holiday inn. a lot of resturants within walking distance.

Eagle Beach is right there!

Another wonderful thing about Eagle Beach besides the fact that it is quiter, beautiful & noncomercialized is that it is so easy to catch a bus and go to the high-rise area or downtown for the restaurants/shopping or something to do at night. Buy a roundtrip ticket when you get on the bus for $3.00 - cheap! I love Eagle Beach! It's the best!

Eagle Beach

It sounds like you are interested in the low rise area. Many great resorts strating with Divi Phoenix, Amsterdam Manor, La Cabana, Manchebo and Bucuti (no kids), Costa Linda is great to if you can find a timeshare holder looking to rent their week. You might be interested in Divi Village which is a magnificent complex with the beach across the street. Eagle is Quiet, pristine and best of all you feel relaxed. Like someone previous said buy the bus ticket for$3.00 or rent a car so you can get around the island. Restaurants near by Eagle are, Gasparito, Buccaneer, Papiamento, Cooks, Giorgio's, Pizza Bob's and so many more without paying the high prices such as in the high rise area. For adventure you can call a jeep tour and go on a nature hike around the island, An evening at Adventure Golf with a round of golf and then enjoy the fun at Black Hog Salon, this is an exciting place just make sure which nights they have the dinner package.
Have a great trip and enjoy where ever it is you choose.

Why not inquire about spending some of your time at either the Tamarijn or the Divi?
It sounds like the atmosphere at either of those two resorts may be just what you need. NOT a high-rise, NOT massively populated, and the beaches (as I remember them) are magnificent. Long, sweeping, nice views out to the ocean, sunset is always awesome. Technically, it's just south of Eagle Beach, just around the bend, so it's pretty much all the same long beach.

And before I say something I shouldn't, does anyone know, has the Black Hog Saloon closed yet?

Hello,

When I read your post, I had to think of The Boardwalk.

Never been there, but it seems to match your wishes quite well, i.e. close to Palm beach, but quiet, not AI, etc.

There are some reviews at tripadvisor.

Couldn't find any reviews on this forum, but someone probably has some more info Anyway, wherever you are staying, enjoy the trip!
