I would have to think that it all comes down to money...if the Marriott asked this particular group to either behave a little better, or not come at all, they would lose ALOT of money. And could also quite possibly have someone claim religious discrimination and then they would have an even bigger problem on their hands. I am not saying at all that that is the way it would go, just a thought and my opinon on the matter. Trying to be out of the box and look at the big picture.
Marriott management just responded to me and said that they basically agree that the behavior of the group that rents in January is rude and obnoxious. However, because 60% of renters are timeshare owners, they are entitled to use the property during the 3rd/4th week in January. Any damages caused to the property are paid for by the persons causing the damages, and does not affect maintenance fees in any way. They also said that the behavior is no worse during these weeks than any other time of year (really?) and that they are going to put extra security around the pool and beach areas.
Will Marriott's security staff force parents to supervise and discipline their children? I doubt it.
Sadly, we will continue to avoid the Surf Club in late January.
