Wyndham

My husband and I booked a trip to the Wyndham for April 2004 (all-inclusive). Any opinions out there from people who have stayed there recently?

Re: Wyndham

you'll get all kinds opinions on this board about the Wyndham. Some loved it, some hated it.

but overall it's a nice hotel and a good value and has good restuarants. It has some minor service issues, but not enough to ruin a good week of vacation and relaxing. We really liked it and would most likely stay there again on a return trip.

feel free to email if you have direct questions.

Re: Wyndham

I won't be too concerned about any minor issues, especially service. We just got back from the Divi last week and our only complaint was that the service was overall pretty poor. We were used to staying at the Marriott and having people thank us for letting them serve us! On the other hand, we weren't pulling our wallets out every 5 minutes either. Needless to say, didn't put a damper on our vacation at all!

What about the rooms?? We booked a standard partial ocean view, which I understand is a lower level floor with a view towards the north.. the Marriott and lighthouse. Not too concerned about the view, but are the spacious enough and clean?

Thanks for the info!

Re: Wyndham

You might want to go here and click on trip reports: www.wyndhamaruba.com

Also go to http://www.aruba-bb.com and go to trip reports. Lots and lots of Wyndham trip reports (decent ones and poor ones)

We stayed there a few months back on our honeymoon - but would not return to that hotel when we go back to Aruba. The negative trip reports did NOT lie that is for sure!

Re: Wyndham

Hopefully our experience will be better than yours. I'm aware that a few of the restaurants were not open due to construction. I expect that they should be re-opening by April. I've also heard negative reports about the service. However, I don't see how it could be any worse than the Divi! You'd be lucky if the bartenders and waiters would make eye contact with you!

Anything negative to say about the rooms?

Re: Wyndham

I've seen some negative comments about the rooms, but our at the Wyndham was very nice and in good shape.

The bartenders at the Wyndham weren't all that great though. We saw only one that actually tried to be nice. The others were very slow and hard to get a drink order in and the drink quality at the pool bar was very undesirable. You'd figure they would have given better service since they can make much more money in tips based on good service. But even with that problem, we still had a good time.

The restaurants @ the Wyndham that are going thru renovation are supposed to re-open in october, so you should be ok with that.
I was very happy with their food.

Re: Wyndham

We just returned from the Wyndham on October 12. Just as Maryanne said above - the negative reports are no lie. Overall we had an acceptable time, however we did experience service issues (with the Wyndham By Request manager & at Cafe Baci). In regards to the room - that is another issue we had. All the cloth surfaces (bedding, pillows, seat cushions) had a very strong smell that I thought smelled like urine (EWWW!), however my husband said it was a musty/moldy smell to him that did resemble a urine scent. We called down to ask for more pillows and I would keep them on the luggage rack and let the maids make up the bed with the orignal pillows. This worked OK - we went with friends and their room had no smell. That's the same that I've read on these boards - some rooms OK, others terrible with smell, etc. Overall the hotel and its accommodations was more "worn" looking than I expected for the money we spent. Good luck with your trip in April!

I am heading go Wyndham in a few weeks. do you remember what room/floor did your friends have? I know not much time is spent in the rooms but i really need a clean smell-free room to enjoy my trip.

Re: Wyndham

I stay at the Wynhdam for two months starting in January. I have been staying there since they were open. Prior to the Wyndham, it was a Hilton and let me tell you, it was poorly run. They took most of those employees and trained them properly. If you ever have a problem, talk to Rob Smith, General manger. Great guy who will make sure that any issues are corrected. Jose the birdman is also a great person. He displays all the birds to the hotel guests and is extremely friendly and a kind person. Another good spot to go is the Kokao Pier Bar, outside the hotel, dutch owned and a great spot for a drink during a sunset.

I am sure that you will have a great time and remember, it is what you make it on a vacation. Read the calendar of events on the website prior to leaving and plan your trip prior to leaving.

If you ever need additioanl information or my comments of dining experiences, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Have fun and remember to wear sunblock.

Re: Wyndham

I can not tell you how dissappointed I am after reading all of the issues at the Wyndham. I have heard form friends and read on Fodor's.com that the mold is truly an issue.

I have 10 days planned there for my honeymoon in January and am seriously considering making a change.

Does anyone have advice?
