WYNDHAM ISSUES??

My fiancee and I have planned an all inclusive trip of 10 days in January 2004 for our wedding. I have been reading and hearing first hand that the Wyndham is the worst of the top rated properties. The all inclusive is not worth it due to renovations and two restaurants being closed.

I have also heard the "Mold" is horrible and the service less than desireable.

I am so concerned that I should change to another, what do you think??

I went to the Wyndham in August, 2003 and it was wonderful. I really don't think it could have gone downhill a month or two later.

Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

If you are seriously concerned and it is going to make you extra anxious for your wedding/honeymoon, then change. Who needs the aggravation. The Radisson rarely gets a complaint. Check that out. Otherwise, call Wyndham, see when the restaurants/renovations are going to be done and where it fits in to your arrival time. If all is a "go", then be proactive and bring a can of Lysol with you. If you should happen to get a room that smells moldy, close the windows, spray it down and go out to the beach for the day. When you come back, open the windows and go out to dinner. Many places can get that smell from time to time. After all, you are on an island with moisture all around.

Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

I just got back on the 18th from my honeymoon and there are no more renovations. Cafe Baci and Pago Pago are both open again. Cafe Baci's food was great. Didnt get to Pago Pago.. Also go to Blossom's, it's Japanese and really good food!!!

Oh and my room did smell like mildew!!! I am allergic to mold/mildew so I pick it up anywhere... For the money go there, if you want to spend more go to the Radisson or Hyatt...

Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

Hi sandy. I find myself in a similar situation as you, except it is not my honeymoon. My boyfriend and I selected the all-inclusive package at the Wyndham in November. I did this from the positive feedback I received from my friends who visited aruba and like the Wyndham. I have been reading all of these boards and for the past month, some really negative reviews have been coming through. Since I really do not want to spend more money, and lose my all-inclusive package, I have been thinking of every situation to avoid any trouble when I arrive.
1) I have emailed several of the staff and managers at the Wyndham, telling them about these negative comments and to please check-out these boards. They have replied that they are on it....Who knows..
2) I have made all of my restaurant reservations at the the hotel, BUT have also made reservations at 2 off-properties places to not feel like I didn't get away from the hotel. (el gaucho!)
3) I have requested a even number room to avoid that blue roof that everyone has mentioned.
4) I am bringing a few nice smelling candles (and linen spray) for my room, in case of a mildew smell. (bath and body has a great spray)
5) REgarding the slow pool service, I will be ordering 2 drinks at a time, so I don't have to wait! Did this in Breezes, worked great. Or just tip the server on the first round, and they sure will pay attention to you.
Overall, I am going to make the most of it. How bad can it possible be? We will be in ARUBA and i've heard it is absolutely GORGEOUS... No hotel employee will ruin it for me! I won't let them...

anyway, don't worry, you should be fine. BUT I will be posting a trip report as soon as I get back. 11/17th)

And if anything major happens, i will let you know and then I would probably reccommend you going to the RAdisson.

Stay tuned....

Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

Thanks so much to all of you for your input.
I usually don't fret over travel since I do it for a living but bad press always travels quickly.
I will check back to see how your November trip goes!

Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

Just got back from all inclusive honeymoon at the Wyndham and had a great time, the food was great in all the restaurants. And all the restaurants are open again. They also have dinner on the beach called Azul which is part of your all inclusive and it is very nice. My room didn't smell mildewy at all. Don't worry about it you will have a great time I spent 12 days there and wasn't ready to leave!! Have fun.
