Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

I just got back from my honeymoon 10/14. We had a great stay! We had a one bedroom ocean front suite. We decided to stay for a couple of extra days but had to give up our suite because it was booked. We got a room on the odd side of the building and if you looked down, yes you saw a blue roof...but if you looked out you could see the other high rises, the ocean and the island. Neither room smelled musty. We had a great time at the Wyndham. The pool bar is very slow, but if you walk two minutes over to the Kokoa beach bar you'll get great drinks for a great price. And make sure you meet Frank the Bellman at the Wyndham!!! He was awesome! He'll take care of you. We never left the hotel without Frank asking us where we were going and giving us some kind of discount or coupon or telling us to ask for a certain person.

Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

Here is the view from our balcony at the Wyndham.
http://home.att.net/~mindy-bob/ourview.jpg
Room 1237, a Jr. Suite at the "wrong" end of the hotel, away from the beach, on the "wrong" side, odd instead of even. No complaints here. The view was beautiful. We got more than we paid for. Our byRequest snacks were waiting for us in the room. Service was excellent. See our trip report from March, 2003 on visitaruba.com or http://www.aruba-bb.com/viewtopic.php?t=2158

Service and other things may have changed in the 7 months since our visit, but the view is the same. Enjoy it!!

Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

We were in 837, right below you. We had pretty much the same view, but saw more of the blue roof since it was only a 2 or 3 floors down. I would have prefered the ocean view, but we weren't that picky and just happy to be there.

Since the #37 room is the farthest from the beach/ocean, this will view of his above JPG file will show you the 'worst' view you can expect, which isn't really that bad.

Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

Well I can tell you that our stay at the Wyndham was totally awful. We stayed there just this past week. We stayed from 10-16 to 10-23. We booked and paid for our reservations well in advance. Our worst fear was realized when we arrived on the 16th. There was no room for at ourselves and at least 8 other couples. We were told that this happens and we were turned away and moved to a property two doors away. The Wyndham gave us $100 food credit to compensate. This hotel is somewhat clean. The food served here is good but you cannot get anyone to serve it to you. The service is painfully slow and unorganized. The rooms are old and need updating. The hotel is 30 years old. Door locks on sliding doors rarely work. The swimming pool is old and falling apart. The hotel charges a non-negotiable 15% surcharge for food service and then expects you to tip servers on top of that. All servers share tips and that prohobits them from giving you good service. I do not recommend this hotel at all no matter what the price is. I would recommend the Hyatt, Marriott, Allegro or the Raddison. They are much nicer than the Wyndham. The Raddison although older is well maintained and has a prime spot on the beach. The steakhouse in the Raddison is excellent. Based on our most recent experience, there are many places better to stay than the Wyndham.

Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

I just got back from my honeymoon yesterday. While we stayed at the Radisson, I can tell you that we walked up to the Wyndom at night and it seemed dead. It is my understanding that the restaurants all close early. However, at the Radisson the Sunset Grille and the Mira Solo bar all stay open until midnight.

The Radisson is an absolutely wonderful setting with accomodating service. I too notice mold and noticed in my room. I immediately brought it to the attention of the staff who offered to first correct the problem, if that didn't fix it they would move us. Luckily whatever happened worked and we didn't have to move. If I ever get the chance to return, I will stay at the Radisson.

Re: WYNDHAM ISSUES??

We did the Wyndham's all inclusive back in early Sept. Not only would we NEVER do an all inclusive on Aruba again, we would NEVER stay at the Wyndham Aruba either. They closed their 2 main restaurants making our all inclusive dining options ridiculous. Meaning - they reduced their italian and seafood menus to 1/4 of what they normally are and stuck us in the breakfast buffet area or out on a patio to dine. It was HORRIBLE. AND they did not notify the travel industry (as in our travel agent or others in the business) - so we paid for and were promised something the Wyndham did NOT give us. Do they think ANYONE would actually pay all that money for an all inclusive if they knew their restaurants were CLOSED? They tried to cover themselves with the replacement areas but any savy traveler with good taste knows that it was a JOKE!

That combined with the service and the lousy condition of the room (dirty carpets, wet spots on carpet upon arrival, leaking bathroom ceiling which caused us to slip several times since each time they came to fix it, it never was fixed properly!!! - which is a HUGE OSHA violation in the USA!!), service, WINDY WINDY WINDY beach (and yes it is MUCH windier than other resorts in highrise area), dirty pool, and did I mention sarcastic service?

Think twice before booking the Wyndham until they get their act together - they are NO competition for Hyatt or Radisson that is for sure!
