A Delicious Day on De Palm Island for Cast of D’Licious!

Category Entertainment     Date Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

On Saturday September 4th, the cast of the island’s hottest show cooled off for a day on De Palm Island. The outing was well-earned for the group which has been working hard to bring Aruba its most spectacular live stage production yet in the form of D’Licious-a two hour music and dance extravaganza presented in a cabaret-style venue called Zissles, located at Paseo Herencia Mall.

The day on De Palm Island proved to be a great team-builder for the cast who arrived in July from Europe. All the performers are thrilled with the opportunity to live and work on Aruba, and have whole-heartedly embraced the local community, and have made a great effort to explore the island and meet the people in between their demanding rehearsal and performance schedules.

The day on De Palm Island was filled with fun, and everyone took advantage of all the activities offered, including snorkeling with the famous blue parrot fish, beach volleyball, and the group’s favorite adventure-the banana boat ride! The group stayed well-nourished throughout the day with a bountiful culinary buffet and open bar.

Want to see the cast of D’Licious live, up close and personal? They perform nightly (Sunday through Friday) at Zissles, where a gourmet three-course dinner is also enjoyed during the show. Visit the website at www.zissles.com for more information and tickets.

Roger Peterson and his Band Intwine will Close Cas di Glas Event on Sunday, November 3, 2010

Category Entertainment     Date Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Local hero and internationally well-known vocalist Roger Peterson and his band Intwine will close the fundraising Cas di Glas (House of Glass) event on Sunday, November 3rd. The group, on Aruba for a sizzling concert in Zissles (formerly Mr. Jazz) on Friday, November 1st, is going to delight those who cannot make it to the concert with a short, yet memorable performance on the Cas di Glas stage. The Cas di Glas event starts on Wednesday, September 29 with the entering of the house by three local deejays. On Sunday the two men and one woman will step out of their home, hopefully having raised a lot of money for the Koningin Wilhelmina Kankerfonds, the cancer foundation. KLM Martinair is one of the main sponsors of the tickets for Intwine.

Before highlighting Intwine, the goal of the Cas di Glas happening needs a moment in the limelight. With this unique action-packed event, the organization hopes to raise enough money to buy a mobile breast cancer screening unit for Aruba. The number of breast cancer diagnoses on Aruba is very high; even higher than the already chilling average worldwide. That is why a screening unit would undoubtedly help save lives.

Back to Intwine, a Dutch rock band, which was formed in 2001 by five students of the Fontyn Rock academy in Tilburg, Holland, three of whom had Caribbean roots. Now, in 2010, the band is made up of Roger Peterson (vocals), Jacob Streefkerk (guitar), Jan Symons (guitar) and Eric Spring in ‘t Veld (drums). The group gained national attention after front man Roger’s performance in Idols, the Dutch version of Pop Idol. Peterson reached the last 10 before quitting the show voluntarily.

Intwine scored big with their songs Happy? And Cruel Man, cross-overs of rock, Latin, reggae and hip hop. Through the years, however, the band has shifted a bit from the rock-pop of debut album Intwine (2003) and second album Perfect (2004) to a harder, darker sound (Pyrrhic Victory – 2006) and Kingdom of Contradiction (2009). Heavy metal elements are incorporated in their most recent music and albums.

Beside their reggae shows, Intwine also plays The Accoustic Rumshop sessions inchiwch they play their songs in Caribbean styles such as reggae, zouk, bolero, soca and cumbia.

The Cas di Glas organization is ecstatic that Aruba’s Roger Peterson and Intwine will be performing a few of their best songs during its closing night. The full-scale, thrilling Intwine concert is on Friday at Zissles.

Cas di Glas Event Draws Popular Artists – Reggae Sensation Mulato to Perform in Aruba

Category Entertainment, Happenings     Date Friday, August 13th, 2010

Reggae sensation Mulato is coming to perform live on the Cas di Glas stage in front of CILO City Lounge and the Cinemas. The artist, who was just nominated for the ‘Orgullosamente Latino 2010′ award, will be performing free of charge to help the effort to raise money for the Koningin Wilhelmina Kankerfonds (KWF) on Aruba, the cancer foundation. With this unusual fundraising, the Cas di Glas foundation hopes to generate enough money for a mobile breast cancer screening unit. It is a four-day event that will take place from September 29 – October 3.

Mulato, officially called Pablo Rafael Gonzalez Romero is an all-round musician from Venezuela. Recently he added the cuatro, a typical Venezuelan tiny guitar, to the instruments that he plays, the guitar, bass and percussion. Born in Caracas in 1969, the artist’s first contact with reggae music came through Bob Marley’s album ‘Uprising,’ which he borrowed from a friend and which hit him like a bomb when he was just 13 years old. The bug bit and it has never left Mulato; he loves the positive vibrations of reggae music and is virtually hypnotized by it. When still a teenager, picking up the English language was easy for the singer and soon he played along on a borrowed guitar. Studying the classical guitar was the next logical step and forming groups of his own (among others a gaita group, gaita being the typical music of the Zulia state) soon followed.

Reggae music has never left him, however, and Mulato is scoring big with his music in Spanish. He is currently conquering Mexico and ‘Levantame esa cara’ is his fifth album already.

Cast of New Dinner Show D’Licious at Zissles Celebrating Producer’s Birthday

Category Entertainment     Date Thursday, August 12th, 2010

No less than 15 international cast members flew in a month ago and will spend six months on the island, performing six nights a week at the new venue Zissles. Among the cast also Jasper Taconis, well known in the Netherlands for his role in the musical “Chicago”. Also, a selection of extremely talented singers and dancers are showing their talents on stage for the public to enjoy. And although the applause is normally for the amazing dancers and singers, back stage a talented team of professionals is standing by to support the cast in their success.

The producer of the D’Licious show, Astrid Rose, celebrated her birthday last weekend with the entire cast and what a warm celebration it became. In the middle of the stage Astrid was put on a chair when the dancers and singers put up a spontaneous show exclusively for her, which they secretly rehearsed in their spare time. Astrid was noticeably touched by the gesture of her cast. “This team is working very hard to put up a high quality show every night and when they surprise you like this, and they have obviously rehearsed this in their spare time; I just feel so honored and privileged to be able to work with such a classy team of talents,” Astrid says with pride.

Starting her career at major record company EMI Music, Astrid was responsible for the production management of several international releases on the Blue Note label. She went on as a creative manager for one of the best selling pop groups in the Netherlands, with CD sales exceeding a million copies worldwide. Astrid coordinated their national theatre tour of more than 60 shows nationwide, produced by Stage Entertainment. As an artist manager for one of the most talented female singers in the Netherlands, Edsilia Rombley, she marketed her successful 2009 theatre tour of over 40 shows. With over ten years of experience in the entertainment industry, producing the spectacular shows at Zissles is the perfect follow up of an already exciting career

D’Licious tells the story of long lost hopes and dreams, from wanting to be a superstar and walk the red carpet, to the fantasy of being a secret agent. The greatest hits from different musical eras have been newly composed especially for the show, as well as a new opening song called D’Licious. Sizzling costumes, with an emphasis on the sexy burlesque theme, and great lighting and graphics, will make for a show Aruba has not yet seen so far. The show can be seen every day but Saturdays as when the venue turns into a sizzling nightclub. Tickets are available at www.zissles.com or at the hotel concierge desk.

The three local celebs will be doing interviews, playing songs and help raise money to be able to buy the AWG. 450,000 Mammogram machine with van that allows physicians in Aruba to detect breast cancer in an early stage.
