The school that created a work of art that won one of the top three prizes during the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, namely the First Toa Payoh Secondary School”, gave a beautiful presentation about Aruba in the Olympic Village in Singapore. The Aruba delegation was invited to receive a work of art that the Singapore students had made especially for this occasion.

As part of the process that brings participating countries of the Youth Olympic Games together, schools are paired. The First Toa Payoh Secondary School was assigned to Aruba and took this very seriously; the students studied everything about Aruba – history, people, culture and all that makes Aruba so special. They also created T-shirts commemorating Aruba’s carnival. They included the divi divi trees, Indian drawings, buildings and even the burrowing owl (shoco) in their Aruba themes. The Aruba flag was displayed in their booth as well.

Aruban Athletes Joey Ponson and Saskia Postma took a picture with the group from Singapore. Nicole Hoevertsz, Secretary General of the Olympic Committee of Aruba, received the artwork from Gillian Elliott who coordinated the school project. The painting demonstrates the union between Aruba and Singapore in a colorful way.
