Saturday afternoon, Nadi Cro
es/Crismo Angela Ballpark was jam packed with thousands of baseball fans who arrived early at the stadium to witness the final between Aruba 1 & Puerto Rico in the ”Latino Americano” baseball games. Both teams played an exciting game till the end of the last inning.
In the first inning Puerto Rico took control of the game and placed two runners on base, but Aruba’s Duinkerk came out good with his excellent pitching. It has to be said that pitchers Shawn Duinkerk, who opened up the game & Abarham Taveraz, who relieved him, did an excellent job on the hill leaving the Puerto Rico hitters only guessing at the bottom of the first inning. Aruba with the basses fully loaded opened up the score with a hit from Juan Moncion where Milton Jr. and Jandido came to home plate to score 2-0 for Aruba. Nothing much happened in the 2nd and 3rd inning, neither of the teams scored a run, but left runners on bases from both sides. Aruba 1 got an opportunity to score but failed to take advantage of this.
In the 4th inning, Aruba 1 placed a runner on base with hitters Jandido Tromp and Raypatrick Didder in turn. Didder turned the whole stadium upside down when he hit a home run over the wall. The cheering could be heard from far away and the floor of the whole stadium was quaking, Aruba scored 4 – 0. In the 5th inning Puerto Rico scored their first run but in the bottom of the 5th, Aruba 1 scored again, leaving 5-1.
In the 6th inning. neither of the teams scored. In the 7th inning, Puerto Rico scored another hit bringing it up to 5-2. Pitcher Shawn Duinkerk striked out the Puerto Rican hitters with his fast ball, which according to some, almost burned catcher’s Chadwick Tromp’s glove. Aruba 1 won the title of the “Latino Americano” baseball games Senior Division for the second consecutive time and now holds a record of 7 wins and no losses. Altogether, Aruba holds a record of 14 wins and no losses. What a record!! Congrats Aruba for your outstanding performance once again.
Now up to Bangor, Maine for the baseball Senior League World Series!
