The “Fundacion Autismo Aruba” (FAA) is a non profit organization officially established in June 2005 who’s mission is to work for the interest of people with autism, and all those that either have a personal or professional relationship with autism. The organization first started as an initiative of parents who themselves experienced the need for an organization that works in the interests of people with autism and their families. Meanwhile other experts have joined the board. The FAA does not receive government funding and is completely dependant on volunteers and donations for its existence.
To enhance knowledge and further educate professionals about autism and autism related issues, the FAA has decided to organize an international autism symposium. This symposium will take place from Friday April 16th till Sunday April 18th 2010.
The main purpose of this symposium is to elevate knowledge of medical and educational professionals. As such the foundation hopes to improve the early detection of autism as well as guidance and treatment of autism within the educational and health care setting. The symposium’s program will consist of a variation of themes and workshops related to autism. The topics that will be addressed during the symposium are prevalence, diagnostics, treatment modalities, education, biomedical development, nutrition speech pathology, social skills and leisure activities
Even though these themes and workshops will be aimed at medical, educational and behavioral specialists, parents are welcome to participate at this symposium. The symposium also provides networking opportunities, as well as opportunities to exchange information and experiences.
