Commemorating FDNY Firefighters on the 15th Anniversary of September 11.
    ceremony september 11 Firefighters

On Sunday the 11th of September ‘16, a special ceremony will be held in the Wilhelmina park in downtown Oranjestad at 5:00 pm, to commemorate the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives whilst saving civilians from the burning World Trade Towers.

With the 15th anniversary of the worst terroristic attack on US soil coming up, volunteer firefighter Dr. Cliff Faldman (64), who currently lives and works in Aruba as a chiropractor, wanted to pay tribute and remember his fellow fire fighters who risked their lives to save others.

“I was a volunteer firefighter back in Maine, and being a firefighter means being a firefighter for life. It’s like a brotherhood. One year after September 11, our fire department in Maine hosted a weekend retreat for the surviving families of the lost firemen; we had cook-outs, lobster bakes and fun activities for kids. Even president Bush JR and President Bush SR were present with their families. It was nice to organize such an event for these people who lost their father, brother or husband. With the 10th anniversary I also organized a small ceremony here on the island, and I feel the need to do it again for the 15th anniversary. Like I said, once a firefighter, always a firefighter.”

The event will take place on Sunday the 11th of September at 5:00 pm at Wilhelmina Park, Oranjestad. It is open to the public and the Prime Minister of Aruba Mike Eman, the minister of Justice Arthur Dowers, and the head of the Aruban Fire Department Eduardo de Cuba will be speaking. There will be light refreshments and Danishes to snack.
