Sporting events take place throughout the year, often on national holidays, attracting local and international participants. On Betico Croes Day (January 25), there is a 10K run through hilly terrain in Santa Cruz. To celebrate Flag Day (March 18), international competitors participate in Aruba’s longest road race, a half marathon (21K) covering the length of the island from San Nicolas to Oranjestad. On the King’s Birthday, there is an international Boulevard race (10K) that is the island’s most popular running event. The annual Aruba triathlon takes place on June 30, consisting of a 1.5km swim, 40 km bike race and 10 km run.
