Local Artist Linda Lou Huiskes is Caribbean Queen for June 2016

Caribbean Queen Artist of the Month June

Each month, Caribbean Queen at the Palm Beach Plaza Mall honors one local female artist who lives and creates here.  The Caribbean Queen program was launched when the store opened in late 2011, and has been running successfully ever since.

For the month of June 2016, local artist Linda Lou Huiskes is the boutique's celebrated Caribbean Queen, showcasing her charming handcrafted jewelry line.

Originally from the Netherlands, Linda Lou started making jewelry from silver wire and beads as a teenager, selling her creations at summer markets.

Her hobby later took a backseat when her professional life as an engineer and her personal life raising a family occupied most of her time.  Jewelry making was all but forgotten.

Moving to the island of Curacao rekindled her interest in her hobby, and she started using local treasures such as precious seashells and bits of sea glass in one-of-a-kind pieces. She also experimented in making bracelets, earrings, and other accessories, and soon the word was out, and a local store contacted her for products. That is how Linda Lou’s thriving jewelry business was born.

She continued making jewelry in Aruba, having moved here with her family, combing the shores of this incredible island, searching for the perfect seashells and brightly colored sea glass. Each found object is carefully graded and set in a particular design; some pieces are drilled while others are wire-wrapped, depending on their size and look.

Each piece of Jewelry by Linda Lou is made to be treasured for years to come and will be a wonderful reminder of the beautiful Caribbean island of Aruba.

Caribbean Queen earmarks a percentage of all sales for its Tikkun Olam (Repair of the World) program. The collected funds are given quarterly to local not-for-profit organizations in an ongoing effort to serve the community. All the foundations served with donations from Caribbean Queen are dedicated to the promotion of art and artisan education on the island.

Enjoy unique jewelry by Linda Lou throughout the month of June, and drop in to witness a live demonstration of her craft at the boutique on the third Thursday of the month in the evening hours.
