Just wanted to let any of you who are planning on staying at La Cabana anytime soon that the renovations are way more than a little inconvenience. We checked in on Monday and had to leave. We had two rooms that were not done! There were 8 construction men in the room and caution tape draped across the door. In addition, there was a large plastic tarp covering the window. Additionally, imagine the sound of a jack hammer cutting through concrete from 8 am to 6 pm. Apparently, Interval didn't know our units were directly affected and permitted someone to bank their units. La Cabana said they didn't have any other rooms to put us in, although I strongly doubt it since it didn't seem too busy. Maybe everyone was at the beach! We were desperate and almost in a panic, knowing we couldn't stay there and felt homeless. II tried to help, but they only could offer the Carribbean Palm Village. The resort is actually nice; much bigger rooms than La Cabana- just far from the beach. We will make the best of it, afterall, we are in ARUBA!

Interval knows the score as far as the renovations go at Lacabana.
Terrible that they made a huge blunder in your case.

We were in rooms 110 and 112.
The rooms closer into center of the horsehoe (rooms 114, 116 118) weren't even done inside. I could easily see that walking past.
The rooms face the pool, but had caution tape so you go out onto the patio and had orange construction netting on the window.

I can go over there and check on your rooms if you want. Then I can tell you exactly the progress for your particular room.

Hopefully none of you will have a problem.

We are staying in an E unit - they are not listed on the renovation schedule - maybe they are completed already? I'm hoping that being at the end will mean we'll be away from the bulk of the noise. TOTALLY not complaining - afterall, It's ARUBA :D

If you are 45 or 46 e, you are okay. (closer to Las Ramblas or Islander Grill)
01 and 02e are near the noise. Not sure if those rooms are done. Didn't walk that far, but let me know if you want me to check. I can go tomorrow.

I just came back. we were in room 203. next to 201 and 202. where we were there was no problem. I was told all of the E rooms have been renovated. Don't know if it is true. You can e-mail La Cabana and they will tell you.

I have 346E week 27. No impact at all by the renovation. No noise at all from the construction work. The E units were renovated a few years ago. LaCabana.com has a renovation schedule but you can't rely on it. Owners are warned to call ahead prior to buying airline tickets.

If anyone is around the LaCabana in the next few weeks, could they please report back to the forum where the construction area is located now in the resort? We will be arriving Feb. 20th, LaCabana said they have moved the construction from our timeshare area (in the very front of the building and side by La Petite), but just curious what area they are working on now. We were there last year and it was a real pain in the neck. Had to walk around the whole resort just to get to the pool. If any one has any information they can report back, it would be greatly appreciated!

Andrea is at La Cabana now. I'm sure she will post soon. When i was left 1 1/2 weeks ago, they were starting construction on Amsterdam Manor side. Patio's on ground level (facing pool) could not be used.

Hi there, as some of you know, I am in the process of getting a timeshare rental for two weeks in September. I noticed that the prices for La Cabana are very reasonable compared to a lot of the other resorts and wondered if this was due to the construction. How bad is the construction and will it effect our stay? Are we better of to avoid it? Has anyone been there lately? Any La Cabana advice? I also read in many reviews that the beds are very uncomfortable, is this true? Thanks.

lacabana prices are pretty good.

we have found the beds in the 1 bedroom units comfortable (king) and the murphy beds i the studios uncomfortable.

the renovation is about halfway complete and they have done a great job at keeping the guests happy and comfortable.

tell me the unit numbers that you are inquiring about and i will be able to tell you where those units are, if they have been renovated and how far from construction they are.

disclosure>>> we own a bunch of weeks at lacabana, have 3 rentals there right now. we spent 2 weeks there in january and the construction did not effect us in the least.

We've rented both in the past and thought the same as well. Although we liked the set-up in the studio better than the one-bedrooms, we found the Murphy beds to be hard.

But I guess the new renovated studio units no longer have Murphy beds and the one-bedroom set-up has been greatly improved.

From what I've seen from the photos, LaCabana did a nice job on the renovation and took care of two major complaints. ;)

The reason we rented from LaCabana in the past was that the rental prices for their units from private owners were always incredibly reasonable. We've paid as low as $285/week and as high as $450/week. Can't beat those prices.

If you go on the La Cabana BRC website, you can see postings where the owners advertise their units for rent or for sale.

Staying at LaCabana now - the last unit before construction begins and have not had a single issue due to the construction. It has been a wonderful week, except that the A/C "chiller unit" has gone out a few times. That may be due to construction, may not, I'm really not sure, but I wouldn't worry at all about it being bothersome.

glad to hear that your unit is not affected by the renovation.

the airconditioning could be a BIG issue. glad it is not such a big deal to you.

tomorrow you go to ABC or CDM?

have fun.

The air is not terrible at all...it's reached 77 at night once. No big deal at all. We are in 132A - the walkway to the right (if facing ocean) is blocked, there is heavy machinery right outside our window and it has been no problem what-so-ever :D Tomorrow we move to CDM :)

amarg
07-24-2010, 11:09 AM
When you are at CDM, please be sure to post your how it's going there and your reviews of the place. We will be there for some of our stay in September to October and I'd love to know how it is. I read in another post that the pool is dirty and not cleaned properly or something?

Jacki
07-24-2010, 09:03 PM
Funny amarg, we were just kicked out of the pool so they could clean it! They put up a sign that says "Pool closed - swimming at your own risk" but then say you can't stay in. The room is nice, very roomy, a ton of storage, GREAT master bath! Everything is quite dated, but I hear a renovation is underway. CDM is very quiet and calm compared to LaCabana!

07-24-2010, 10:04 PM
Thank you so much! I guess they lustened to the people and cleaned it. I'm so glad to hear CDM is spacious, comfie and quiet as we have a baby who is a light sleeper. She seems to have supersonic bat ears. Lol! Its our first stay in Aruba and I didn't realize rentals could be so cheap. I'd already paid and booked and then got lots more offers from owners for less. Oh well, it's all learning for next time and judging from this forum, there will be a next time!

That unit is in phase 9 and scheduled to be renovated by Oct 31. The schedule is posted on the website. I am not an owner there, but you can access that. That section is in construction now.

Hello

Just arrived back from La Cabana yesterday and we was not bothered by the construction at all. We stayed in the Sunday to Sunday section of the resorts and all the rooms on that side was already renovated. The new room are very nice. You can look on the La Cabana website to see where they are on the renovations but overall it did not bother our trip at all. The pool area was great.

Can anyone tell me if the patio is open for unit 146E? We are arriving on Saturday and I read on the La Cabana website that the patios for 145 and 146E were completely closed off until the end of October. Thanks for any help.

It looks like 145 and 146 are part of Phase 9 of the construction and that phase is not scheduled to be completed until the end of October. If they are on schedule the won't be open until the end of October.

I'm arriving January 15th, 2011. Can anyone tell me how far along the renovations are at the LaCabana. I have a first floor unit & am hoping it doesn't have a fence in front of the patio. That happened to friends of ours last year. Thanks for any info. Can't wait for 44 days to pass!!!:)

Andrea J.

if you go to the lacabana website (click link above) you will be able to see what is FINISHED (LOTS) and what is not .
i walked the resort a few times over the past few weeks.
i cannot guarantee there is nothing blocking the patio in front of 142, but to the best of my recollection all patios surrounding the pool are open and usable.

Can't wait for our trip to La Cabana in May! Has anyone been there lately? Wondering if the lobby renovations are finished. Also, have they completed the on-site casino (where the restaurant used to be)?

THanks!

Returned home on 3/6 after 2 weeks stay at LaCabana. NO, the lobby is not done yet. We were told it would be opening within the next week or so, but according to reports, that has not happened.
One good thing that I noticed about the temporary lobby is that the lines much much faster than usual.
Keep asking, am sure one day you will get a "yes" it is opened answer.

I booked a room there a few months ago when it had pretty good ratings. Recently I've noticed that its ratings on various review sites have dropped due to customers complaining about the renovations taking place. I'm a little concerned about this: does anyone know if I contact Interval World where I get my timeshare through if they will address this issue? Or if there's really anything I can do? My trip is in september so it's pretty short notice and I definitely don't want to reschedule.

Thank you for the reply but these are very old threads. Like I said in my original post, the negative experiences people were having are extremely recent in the past 2-3 months, but I can't tell if it's the rare occasion or something that the majority of people are experiencing.

lacabana is a lively fun resort with TONS on kids, families etc...
it is a marvelous place and their interior renovations are complete and are now doing some patio/balcony work

crossing the street to get to the beach is no big deal

Was at Lacabana July 20 thru 27. The renovations are indeed going on.Where they highly disruptive? No. If you wanted to sleep in till 9 or so they could be a problem depending where you are.Like Andrea said most of the work is on the balcony/patios.Not as beautiful a site as it will be but you barely notice it from the pool ares and from the beach-forget about it! Across the street lies the best beach on the island. The staff will make you feel very welcome and be sure to hit Bingo-Bingo everyday at 2 around the pool.
