How much sunscreen??

I have read several posts warning me to bring plenty of sunscreen, which is great - BUT...how much is "plenty"? We will be there for a week and there are 7 of us. I don't want to overload my suitcase but I don't want to fork out major bucks because I didn't pack enough sunscreen either! Is there a place to buy a decent, inexpensive beach hat? Thanks!

My dd is very fair skinned and I pack roughly a bottle for every 3 days. Ideally she should probably use half a bottle a day, but I am only her mother and 15 yo's know it ALL. ;) I have medium skin and use a different spf so pack 1 bottle for every 4 days and come home with leftovers. I pack each bottle individually in ziploc bags. If one bottle leaks it does not leak all over the clothes or on any of the other bottles. And yes, no matter how careful they are packed they do sometimes leak. :doh:

Apply before you put on your swim suit in the a.m. and reapply frequently, especially after getting out of the water. You have never really suffered a bad sunburn until you have been burned in Aruba. :(

Do not forget to apply sunscreen to the tops of your hands and feet as well as tops of ears.

As to the hat, if you cannot buy one locally before you leave (Kohl's has inexpensive hats online) just about all of the resorts have sundries shops and there is a department store in downtown Oranjestad, La Linda which would probably have something as well.

Thanks, Lisa. I have 4 bottles of sunscreen. 3 of us are pretty fair-skinned. Sounds like maybe I should buy more.
I pack EVERYTHING leaky (toothpaste, shampoo, all that stuff) in ziploc bags. I love those things!!

We usually pack 3-4 bottles of sunscreen but we do love Aruba Aloe sunscreeen and after sun products, so we have found ourselves buying more and more when we get to the island. Best to buy Aruba Aloe products either at the factory store or at Lings, where they have a wide variety of products-much cheaper than at the hotel.

I love the Spray Sun Screen stuff... but it goes so quick and is so expensive. Pharmacy by me had a good deal on JUMBO bottles - we bought 4 for the 2 of us for a 8 day trip.

Yes, be very carefull. We see so many persons with a terrible sunburn (also the feet) Be extra carefull with snorkel tours or jeep or quad tours, because of the wind you feel comfortable but in the meanwhile...........................
I read today about a girl who fell asleep in the sun for 2 1/2 hours. Her face became blistered. I was very surprised no one woke her up. :(

Dd and I both applied sunscreen to the tops of our thighs, but they still were burned, after our ATV tour.
