So it is official......
our son, daughter inlaw and the boys will be joining us for 1 of our weeks in november.

jake will be 2 1/2 and liam will be 12 mos!

it will be an aruba trip like no other.

now it is time to look into "needed supplies"
we'll bring jake's front facing car seat with us and they will bring liam's rear facing car seat.
i think all we'll need is to get our hands on 2 high chairs.
any suggestions for that?

we will be in the 2 bedroom/2 bath condo unit at the tropicana.

we are over the moon with excitement.

look in your storage area for phone books.
if the dates are coordinating, maybe you can babysit while i go to the beach ? ;)
how difficult can a 1 and 2 yr old be? ;)

Hey - if they like shots of tequila, we have a done deal.

Now that's awesome news.. imagine being so young and going to Aruba with the grandparents to spoil ya..
Better than Disney...

Maybe you can email them and ask to borrow a couple from the restaurant.

I like your line of thinking, Walt. Molding young minds to be the consummate margarita makers should be the goal of everyone on this forum. And... they're never too young to start learning how to juice a lime.

My grandson has been to Aruba since he was 18 months old. The car seats can be used as highchairs if you really need them. Just put a towel in them for feeding time. The 2 1/2 year old probably doesn't want to sit in a high chair anymore. He will just want to kneel on the chair.

That's going to be a fun trip! You'll have a blast.

We took our 9 YO grandson in January and he is STILL sad he had to leave.

What a wonderful time you'll have! Many memories to be made for sure. You'll probably also need a vacation to recover from your vacation! ;):o:)

I know how you feel. My grandsons could be here for only a couple of hours and when they leave Charlie & I look at each other and at the same time say "I'm exhausted". Off to lay down for a few hours for me. And it's only 4 in the afternoon. LOL. Gage isn't too exhausting anymore as he is older (he will be 7 in 3 months) but Chase the 3 years, 4 month old is really a handful. He has no fear.

Your poor animals. I can understand, especially Bella that is older and doesn't want to be bothered. My cat runs as fast as he can when the kids come (but he isn't a people friendly cat anyway). Chase will say Mollie (our dog) bit me. Well, what was Chase doing to Molllie. Grabbing her around the neck and pulling her tail. What does he expect.

Doesn't Trop have highchairs? They do at La Cabana. What about a crib for Liam? The 1st time that Gage was with us we requested a crib and highchair. DD was worried about the cleanliest of the crib and highchair but they were in tip top shape. I think La Cabana said each was $5.00 a day but they never charged us. The 2nd time with Gage Tina put the mattress on the from in the living room from the sleeper couch. Though costly if you need or forget anything, check out this site www.sweethomearuba.com/baby-equipment-rental-packages.html (http://sweethomearuba.com/baby-equipment-rental-packages.html)

Try to get your unit on the 1st floor. So much easier than dealing with elevators, especially with the kids. The 2 bedroom was the 1st unit I stayed at which was at the time La Cabana Villas 11 years ago. Loved it that they had the washer/dryer in the unit. .

Andrea, I'm sure that you and Paul will have a blast with your son, his wife, and the grandkids in Aruba. It will probably be the best vacation that the grandkids will ever have! Have you heard anything from Trop. about the price that you paid? I'm pretty sure that you booked through S.W. I've read on some other sights that Trop. has been calling people who booked through getaroom and claiming that the price was an error, and adjusting the room price. I haven't heard anything about this happening to S.W. customers. I hope that your booking is still ok.

Andrea J.

i have checked numerous times.

fingers crossed that it stay ok, if not we will be up the creek

Hopefully, it will be fine. It seems that people are still getting to keep the reservations, just at a slightly higher rate.

I heard the higher rate was for a renovated unit.

I heard the higher rate was for a renovated unit.

Several people have written on another site that they were recently contacted by Trop. They state that Trop. recently discovered that the rate that was advertised as $29.00 per night was a mistake. Many people booked at this rate. Trop. is contacting these people and charging them a higher rate, if they want to keep their reservations. This is happening to people who booked through the site, getaroom. I think that there were a few that rented through jet blue also.

And muddling mint leaves for mojitos, don't want them to grow up being a one trick pony... ;)

You will have a blast Andrea. We took our little man when he was 2.5 for the first time and he loved every second of the trip. Our best investment for him was the full body swim suit that was spf 50- we purchased 2 of them. Be prepared for LONG naps, the heat really took the energy out of my little man and he slept 3 hours daily for his nap, unlike at home.

We booked the $29 a night rate through Southwest. We have not been contacted yet.
I don't think that the rate was a mistake. When we were on the island in March we stopped at the reservation office and verified our quote. At that time we were offered a guaranteed renovated room for an additional $25 a night, which was still a bargain.

Same - booked thru SW & called Trop - confirmed price is good, unless I wanted to upgrade to a renovated room.

Andrea - I'm so excited for you! I do hope that they are coming with in the beginning part of your trip. How awesome to have that time with those you love more than anything in the place you love so much :)

Then I hope you relax a ton during the first part to prepare. Where are you going to vacation after they leave? ;-)

Please don't do what I did a few years ago - spent almost my whole first week excited in anticipation of my nieces from Germany & SsIL from CA coming that I kinda blew the week!

Andrea J.
05-24-2016, 09:36 AM
exactly.
agree 100%

we plan on doing adult activities during the first week.
going out to dinner..casino...visiting other beaches and snorkeling.

when they arrive...it will be the beach and the pool, naps, babysitting and paul and i staying in for dinner while kevin and rebecca sneak out for their adult time.

Our son and dil are thrilled and excited. They have been apart much in the past 20 months due to his job. Currently he is in San Diego and on the USS Oklahoma City pulling out a reactor and installing new. He will be home in August. Hopefully in August his job assignments will keep him in Portsmouth. I'm heading out to San Diego towards the end of June, but I'll be at a different base. Can't wait to get some of that Southern California weather!

Perfect vacation having your family with you. Enjoy. Those babies grow up so darn fast.
